The Associate Charterer, Oil Tankers, will be a key member of our multifaceted shipping team. You are responsible for the timely and efficient chartering of oil tankers to support the company's global crude oil and clean product trading and refining operations. You will work closely with traders, schedulers, and operations teams to execute voyages, lead vessel performance, and contribute to market analysis. You will work closely with traders, schedulers, and operations teams to execute voyages, lead vessel performance, and contribute to market analysis. Key Accountabilities
- Chartering Execution:
- Execute tanker chartering activities for both crude oil and refined products on a worldwide basis.
- Actively participate in the negotiation of charter party terms, including freight rates, laytime, and other contractual clauses, with shipowners and brokers.
- Prepare and issue fixture recaps and charter party agreements.
- Collaborate with internal partners (traders, schedulers, and refinery teams) to understand shipping requirements and align on chartering strategies.
- Post-Fixture Operations:
- Coordinate with the post-fixture and operations teams to ensure smooth and efficient execution of voyages.
- Supervise vessel performance and address any operational issues that may arise during a voyage.
- Review and approve laytime calculations and freight payments.
- Market Analysis & Reporting:
- Conduct daily market analysis of the global tanker fleet, including freight rates, vessel availability, and market trends.
- Provide regular market intelligence reports to the Head of Chartering and trading teams.
- Maintain and update internal databases with key market information.
- Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with shipowners, tanker brokers, and other market participants.
- Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure all chartering activities are conducted in full compliance with company policies, international regulations, and industry guidelines.
- Identify and report potential risks associated with chartering activities.
Essential Education, Experience and Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Maritime Studies, Economics, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- < 5 years of experience in tanker chartering, shipping operations, or a related role within the oil and gas or shipping industry.
- Experience with clean product and crude oil tankers is a strong advantage.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A keen interest in global energy markets, geopolitics, and shipping.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and a strong team player.
