About the Position: This position is with USACE, Fort Worth District, Operations Division, Sam Rayburn Powerhouse in Jasper, TX.

This is a Bargaining Unit Position.

Duties

Help

  • Perform periodic inspections, diagnostic testing and troubleshooting of equipment failures
  • Repair break-downs of electrical and electronic equipment
  • Install new equipment
  • Conduct Doble and high-potential testing on generation and delivery equipment
  • Requisition and maintain materials, supplies and tools for operating needs
  • Attend conferences to recommend solutions or provide information
  • Prepare equipment and facilities operating procedures

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Power Plant Senior Electrician without more than normal supervision. This includes the ability to perform inspections, preventative maintenance, installation, and repairs on electrical equipment at multi-purpose hydroelectric dams, hydroelectric power generating plants, spillways, intake structures, or switchyards; and conduct high-potential and/or Doble Testing on power plant generation and delivery equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work tasks require that the incumbent be capable of rapid simultaneous mental and muscular coordination in conjunction with eye and hand coordination to operate switches and controls in accordance with meter indications. In order to perform the maintenance, inspection and operation of power station equipment the worker will lift and carry heavy objects 45 pounds and over, climb and reach above the shoulders, stand, sit, crawl and kneel for prolonged periods of time and perform repeated bending. Requires substantial and frequent climbing of stairs and ladders between floor levels of Power Plants for all duties. The incumbent must be able to utilize the plant communications system and to do so hearing and speech is necessary. In order that color codes be recognized it is necessary for the incumbent to have correctable vision and the ability to distinguish basic shades of colors. Operation of cranes, pickups and other motor vehicles is required. Incumbent will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and an annual physical.
