POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR ST. CLAIR COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

TITLE:Maintenance Technician

JOB GOAL: To provide outstanding maintenance and repair services in the care and operation of the school system facilities, structures and equipment

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Operations Director

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  3. Three or more years of general construction or maintenance
  4. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  5. Competent written and verbal communication skills
  6. Ability to operate and maintain needed tools and diagnostic
  7. Ability to implement preventive maintenance programs and to follow safety and recommended rules for efficient shop operations
  8. Ability, agility, and stamina to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, climbing, and reaching
  9. Physical strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50
  10. Ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force
  11. Ability to work in confined spaces, heights, indoors, outdoors, noisy/quiet environments, and during inclement weather
  12. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary
  13. Ability to identify mechanical problems, to implement preventative maintenance programs, and follow requirement safety rules
  14. Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities
  15. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of maintenance, including use of chemicals
  16. Ability to read and follow plans, directions, and lay-outs for maintenance projects
  17. Ability to prioritize tasks
  18. Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project completion
  19. Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders and heights
  20. High level of personal initiative and ability to work without close supervision
  21. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance
  22. Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the board may require


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and
  2. Performs maintenance and repair of facility areas and furnishings, shop equipment, and workspaces with minimal supervision
  3. Maintains shop areas in a clean, neat and safe manner. Keep service trucks washed as needed and serviced at intervals as needed as established by the transportation department
  4. Maintains an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment as assigned
  5. Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and in attitude at all
  6. Properly uses and maintains responsibility for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system
  7. Request supplies and equipment needed to carryout duties and assigned projects
  8. Receives, distributes and delivers materials, supplies, tools and equipment as needed
  9. Assists designated other Maintenance Technicians and Specialist in projects, tasks, and duties as assigned
  10. Responds promptly to call out for emergency situations
  11. Performs all maintenance services with priority on student and employee safety
  12. Engages in work related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed
  13. Performs duties in a courteous, professional manner
  14. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters
  15. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility
  16. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel
  17. Demonstrates skill, safety, and knowledge when operating equipment
  18. Use proper safety equipment as appropriate when performing maintenance duties
  19. Replaces light bulbs and ballasts where needed
  20. Performs regular, routine inspection of buildings and grounds for safety hazards, repairs, or service and reports needs or solves issues according to established school system procedures
  21. Establishes and maintains effective and appropriate interpersonal relationships with administrators, supervisors, students and school faculty and staff
  22. Engages in required orientations, trainings, safety instruction and meetings as required for effective job performance
  23. Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner
  24. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
  25. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state and federal, and local laws
  26. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures
  27. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).


SALARY: Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:12 month

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
