This role sits within ABB's Robotics business, a leading global robotics company. We're entering an exciting new chapter as we've announced the plan for SoftBank Group to acquire ABB Robotics. This Position reports to:
R&D Department Lead

Overall Responsibilities
  • Develop software products, systems for ABB Robotics Division by leading and managing the execution of one or more R&D projects with global teams. Lead in partnership with local/global resource managers, scrum teams, local business managers, steering groups, product management and external parties and ensure value creation. Ensure that all related activities are executed in accordance with ABB internal and project models and SAFe process.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Leads local/global SW projects, using own technical and project management expertise to manage projects activities and sub-project activities. Coordinate and motivates scrum teams to accomplish all project tasks and milestones.
  • Drive SAFe-aligned collaboration. Facilitate cross-functional coordination between Scrum teams and stakeholders within the SAFe execution model; Lead Program Increment (PI) Planning events to establish team PI Objectives while overseeing the decomposition of Epics into Features, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.
  • Optimize Agile governance. Organize and facilitate Scrum of Scrums ceremonies to synchronize cross-team dependencies and mitigate delivery risks; Coach teams on Lean-Agile practices (e.g., WSJF prioritization, Iteration Retrospectives), fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Manages project releases, defining, with key stakeholders, the scope of work, cost/budget, resources required and time schedule. Monitors and controls project cost and financials. Formalizes acceptance of the project and brings all the project elements to a conclusion. Ensures project results are transferred to relevant line organization or department responsible. Captures lessons learned.
  • Ensures project activities follow sound methodology and execution practices in accordance with standard ABB internal directives and SAFe procedures. Ensures activities follow external standards etc. that influence results and targets.
  • Identifies, contains and reduces risk. Ensures appropriate handling of change requests. Ensures transparency around unforeseen results/events and identified risks and makes sure that they are properly prioritized, managed and communicated.
  • Ensures understanding of customer value. Takes into consideration requirements and demands coming from customers and from different ABB functions (sales, supply, production, etc.). Acts to ensure customer satisfaction and expectations.
  • Serves as the key contact for the project stakeholders. Effectively communicates appropriate information to stakeholders in a timely manner and to achieve desired understanding and support.
  • Manages relationships with stakeholders, internal functions, other R&D teams in Technology Center and/or Corporate Research Centers and external relevant parties (e.g. customers, academia).

Requirements
  • Education & Experience Required: MS with 8+ years, major in ME, automation or computer is preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on project management experience in R&D software development, with at least 3 years in global enterprise environments
  • Proven track record in managing full-cycle software projects within cross-functional, geographically distributed teams
  • In-depth knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum/SAFe), including practical experience in SAFe ceremonies like PI Planning. Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) and DevOps practices
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
  • SAFe, PMP certification is a plus
  • Robotics, Software technical background is a plus
  • General competencies:
