About Us
Hecla Mining Company produces more than 45 percent of all silver in the United States, and has operating mines in Alaska, Idaho, Quebec, Canada and Yukon Territory, Canada. We also own exploration properties in world-class silver and gold mining districts throughout North America. Hecla's philosophy is to operate mines safely by promoting a deeply rooted value-based culture, leveraging mining skills developed over the Company's long history, and applying innovative new practices. Hecla's responsibility is to the safety and health of our people, the communities we call home, and the environment we operate in.
Hecla's Greens Creek Mine in southeast Alaska is one of the largest and lowest-cost primary silver mines in the world, and it is the cash generating engine of the Company. The Greens Creek ore body contains silver, zinc, gold and lead, and it lies within the Admiralty Island National Monument. The Greens Creek property includes 17 patented lode claims and one patented mill site claim. The entire project is accessed by boat. It consists of the mine, an ore concentrating mill, a dry stacked tailings facility, a ship-loading facility, camp facilities, and a ferry dock.
Hecla Lucky Friday is a deep underground silver, lead, and zinc mine located in the Coeur d'Alene Mining District in northern Idaho. The mine began operating in 1942. Lucky Friday, one of the top seven primary silver mines in the world (based on silver equivalent ounces), celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2017. Thanks to the #4 Shaft project, the mine is expected to have another 20-30 years of mine life and will continue to provide quality jobs and community support to north Idaho.
