Position Summary

This role supports the day-to-day operations of the solar and install coordination departments, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition from sale to the completion of the installation. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, requesting and tracking permits, managing utility interconnection applications, addressing permit or inspection failures, coordinating rebate and NEM enrollment, and assisting with customer questions. Additionally, the role involves supporting Install Coordinators to provide exceptional customer experience and acting as a backup Install Coordinator as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Request and submit all solar permits (residential and commercial)
  • Prioritize pulling and submitting permits based on job urgency and project timelines.
  • Coordinate with Project and Install Coordinators to expedite permits as needed.
  • Prepare and submit all required permit documents (plans, structural load calculations, technical diagrams, equipment specifications).
  • Submit and track PG&E interconnection applications, including agreements, equipment specs, and required fees.
  • Manage and track all Net Energy Metering (NEM) enrollments and PG&E Permission to Operate (PTO) approvals.
  • Schedule Solar installations.
  • Work closely with Coordinators, technicians, and customers to resolve issues with outstanding permits or interconnection applications.
  • Address permit denials by identifying and implementing solutions to secure approval
  • Build and maintain professional rapport with City/County building officials, PG&E interconnection teams, and other AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction).
  • Maintain organized documentation of all permit and interconnection requirements for each jurisdiction.
  • Collaborate with Coordinators to schedule technicians for permit finalizations as required by city or county regulations.
  • Coordinate with Project Coordinators to gather the necessary permit information.
  • Assist customers with rebate questions and applications.
  • Assist the install coordinators with any scheduling needs as they arise.

KPIs
  • Order permits within 24 hours after all information is provided.
  • Submit interconnection applications within 48 hours of permit approval.
  • 100% accuracy rate on permit and interconnection data.
  • PTO achieved on average within target time frame (e.g., <30 days from installation).

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in permitting, install coordination, or dispatch (solar permitting experience strongly preferred).
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to quickly learn permitting or project management software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with customers, team members, and city/county officials.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple permits and interconnection deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot permit denials or scheduling challenges.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Spanish speaker is a plus.
