about the position
Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for an early career Database Architect to join the Operations team. Reporting to the Team Lead this role will be based in Chevron's office in Bengaluru
We are seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Database Architect to design, implement, and manage enterprise-grade database solutions across both Azure Cloud and on-premises infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in relational, NoSQL, graph, vector databases & related tools, and will play a key role in shaping the data strategy, ensuring scalability, performance, and security across all platforms.
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Key responsibilities
Architecture & Design
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance database solutions across Azure and on-premises environments.
- Develop data models and schemas for structured and unstructured data.
- Architect hybrid data solutions integrating cloud-native services with legacy systems.
- Lead implementation and optimization of databases including:
- Relational: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle
- Cloud-native: Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines (IaaS), Cosmos DB
- Graph: Neo4j, Azure Cosmos DB (Gremlin API)
- Vector: Milvus, Azure AI Search (vector capabilities)
- Lead end-to-end migration of on-premises databases to Azure, including assessment, planning, execution, and validation.
- Modernize legacy database platforms using Azure-native services such as Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, and Azure Synapse.
- Utilize tools like Azure Migrate, Data Migration Assistant (DMA), and Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Ensure minimal downtime and data integrity during migrations.
- Extend Azure management and governance to on-premises and multi-cloud database environments using Azure Arc.
- Enable unified policy, security, and monitoring across hybrid data assets.
- Deploy and manage Azure-enabled SQL Server and PostgreSQL instances outside Azure using Azure Arc.
- Architect and manage database workloads within Azure VMware Solution (AVS) environments.
- Migrate and optimize SQL Server and other database workloads on AVS using best practices for high availability and performance.
- Leverage AVS components such as vSphere, vSAN, NSX-T, and vCenter for hybrid cloud database operations.
- Integrate AVS-hosted databases with Azure-native services and ensure compliance with enterprise security standards.
- Leverage Azure services such as Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Monitor for data orchestration and observability.
- Use Kusto Query Language (KQL) to build custom dashboards and reports in Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
- Conduct performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
- Monitor and troubleshoot database performance across environments.
- Ensure data security, encryption, and compliance with industry standards.
- Implement role-based access control and auditing mechanisms.
- Work closely with data engineers, software developers, and DevOps teams.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior database staff.

Qualifications
- Proven experience with Azure Cloud, Azure Arc, and Azure VMware Solution (AVS).
- Strong knowledge of Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Cosmos DB.
- Hands-on experience migrating and modernizing on-premises databases to Azure.
- Familiarity with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, Gremlin) and vector databases (e.g., Milvus, Azure AI Search).
- Proficiency in Kusto Query Language (KQL) for Azure resource monitoring and reporting.
- Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Ansible and Microsoft ADO Pipelines.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
