AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced part-time, mid-level NEPA Planner to join our NEPA planning team in Atlanta, Georgia who will work on an as needed basis.

The ideal candidate for this position will apply their knowledge of the traffic noise analysis, NEPA, planning, state, and federal regulatory processes to contribute to our Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) projects, as well as various NEPA projects in the state and around the country. The candidate will prepare or coordinate the preparation of traffic noise analysis, including the use of the TNM v2.5, field noise measurements, noise abatement analysis, and report production. Additional duties could include the preparation or coordination of all levels of state and federal planning documents and technical studies and provide quality assurance/quality control of NEPA and planning documents prepared by in-house staff or outside consultants. The candidate also will coordinate with resource and environmental permitting agencies, local stakeholders, and members of the public.

Additional skills desired involve familiarity with FHWA and GDOT Noise Policy and guidance documents, GDOT Environmental Guidebooks, strong task management skills, effective communication skills, and ability to work successfully in both collaborative and self-directed settings.

How will you contribute to the team?
  • Preparation and review of NEPA and planning documents and oversight of documents prepared by other staff and consultants.
  • Coordinate technical tasks for compliance with project schedules.
  • Evaluate impacts from transportation projects on the built, cultural and natural environment.
  • Conduct or manage public engagement activities that help the public meaningfully contribute to the decision-making process.
  • Contribute to traffic noise modeling and studies.
  • Coordinate with design professionals and overall project team to identify fatal flaws, schedule delays, opportunities for schedule acceleration or recovery, and opportunities to avoid or minimize impacts.

What will you contribute?
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Planning, Engineering or a related field, Master's degree is a plus; This level may be achieved by Planners with 5 years of experience since bachelor's degree or 4 years since Master's.
  • Proficiency with Traffic Noise Modeling (TNM) is a plus.
  • Similar environmental consultation experience related to transportation projects with GDOT and/or other linear projects (including projects with federal and state funding) preferred.
  • Aptitude for maintaining a professional attitude and attention to detail while working alone, within a team environment, and/or on multiple projects, simultaneously.
  • Excellent technical writing, computer, and verbal communication skills with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational, task and time management, deductive reasoning, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite of software.
  • Ability to visit project sites if necessary.
  • Eligible candidates must have a valid driver's license.
  • Local candidates are preferred for this position.
  • Familiarity with schedule management software a plus.
