Who We Are:

Southwest Research Institute's Solar System Science & Exploration Division specializes in Space Studies, Planetary Physics, Planetary Atmospheres and Surfaces, Lunar Origin and Evolution, Solar Physics, Solar System Dynamics, Astronomy, Computer Systems, Space Operations, Space Technologies and Mission Operations. The Solar System Exploration Division is operates out of beautiful Boulder CO, as a satellite of the San Antonio, Texas based Southwest Research Institute.

Objectives of this Role:

• Use existing software to generate simulations of spectral observations of multiple solar system targets, and explore parameter space exploring the impact of local time, potential vertical transport rates on state of the atmosphere as a function of altitude.
• Increase modularity of existing software -increase ease of modifying parameter space to atmospheric conditions relevant for a variety of solar system exploration targets.
• Use resulting simulations to predict observables for upcoming and in development missions to solar system targets.
• Use resulting simulations to predict characteristics of atmospheres existing on exoplanets with properties analogous to the simulated inner and outer planet observation targets.
• Local year-round student.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Regular tag-ups with supervisor to discuss code update plans and review simulation progress.
• Produce simulations of spectra that may be obtained from space-based telescopes.
• Participate in regular Team meetings.

Requirements:

• Must be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Physics, Astronomy, or closely related degree field.
• 0 years: Coding experience in either C, IDL or python.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with others.
• A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Requirements:

Work assignment is in Boulder, Colorado.

Job Locations: Boulder, Colorado

Salary Range: $18.00 - $27.00
