This Position reports to:
Supervisor, Integration & Tests
The ABB Measurement & Analytics plant in Québec is a global leader in the field of spectroscopy.
Our contract engineering department is the largest Canadian supplier of space optical sensors used, among other things, for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and global weather forecasting. Our plant is also recognized for its expertise in the development and manufacturing of various products that meet a wide range of industrial analysis needs on a daily basis.
By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Québec, you will actively contribute to our clients' projects. You will complete your internship within a dynamic and stimulating multidisciplinary team. This is an ideal internship for someone looking to deepen their knowledge in the field of space instrumentation.
Your role as an intern will be to actively participate in the integration of a satellite payload designed for high-resolution Earth imaging.
This is a highly complex payload. There are many challenges for those who are interested and motivated. The tasks span several areas of expertise: optics, mechanics, and electronics.

Your Role: Take on the Challenge
- Familiarize yourself with the project to understand the general context and the underlying scientific and technological principles.
- Based on the skills and interests of the selected candidates, a specific assignment will be proposed in collaboration with the project team.
Here are a few examples:
- Be responsible for an optical lens alignment station in a barrel and associated tasks.
- Participate in the mechanical assembly of structural parts, including bonding activities and thermal management devices.
- Perform dimensional checks using a CMM to ensure parts meet the highest standards.
- Participate in the high-precision assembly of spectral filters.
- Validate the optical performance of the system, such as MTF (Modulation Transfer Function), focal length, and distortion.
- Operate a telescope detector alignment station, including final performance verification.
- Participate in functional and performance electronic testing.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's student in physics, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
- Ability to follow standardized aerospace procedures and methodologies (attention to detail, focus, desire to do things right).
- Problem-solving skills in complex systems.
- Excellent communication skills, results-oriented, and a team player.
- Ability to provide clear and concise documentation when required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Matlab or Python.
- Bilingual (English-French). French is required. English is also required to regularly communicate with clients outside Québec.
