Job Description Summary

The Senior Jurisdiction & Classification Engineer will use their technical experience, analytical thinking, and internal and external resources to provide guidance and advice to technical experts in determining the regulatory jurisdiction and classification of hardware, software, and technical information for export control purposes. This role requires a strong technical background in aerospace and defense, knowledge of global export control laws and regulations comprehensive understanding of regulatory control lists, including the U.S. Munitions List (USML) and Commerce Control List (CCL), and adherence to corporate compliance programs and practices.

Job Description

The International Trade Compliance (ITC) team is responsible for the compliant execution of global export control laws and regulations. The successful candidate will work closely within the ITC team and GE Aerospace programs/functions to compliantly apply export control laws and regulations to support international business.

The Senior Jurisdiction & Classification Engineer will report to the ITC Senior Leader for Jurisdiction & Classification and will support GE Aerospace's export jurisdiction and classification program to drive consistent export jurisdiction and classification determinations and processes across all global sites.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Assist business with complex jurisdiction and classification determinations and/or regulatory interpretations with minimal oversight.
  • Develop processes, procedures, and training for regulatory jurisdiction and classification determinations of hardware, software, and technical information.
  • Assist business units with implementation of jurisdiction and classification program requirements.
  • Interface with engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, customers, and suppliers in a highly collaborative environment to ensure compliant export jurisdiction and classification determinations.
  • Prepare formal jurisdiction or classification requests to appropriate regulatory authorities as needed.
  • Support jurisdiction and classification activities related to compliance investigations and merger and acquisition activities.
  • Perform jurisdiction and classification-related audits and assessments of global sites, functions, and programs.
  • Monitor jurisdiction and classification-related laws and regulations and provide advice to business stakeholders regarding implications and requirements to GE Aerospace business units and strategies.
  • Collaborate with ITC Leadership and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Participate in relevant trade compliance associations and industry group discussions.
  • Provide support and advice for export jurisdiction and classification-related systems and tools to assure compliance and enhance efficiency.


Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 10 years of professional experience OR associate's degree with minimum of 12 years of professional experience OR high school diploma with minimum of 14 years of professional experience
  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience with export jurisdiction and classification determinations of hardware, software, and technical information in accordance with global export control lists, including the USML and CCL.
  • Commitment to compliance and integrity.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, for applicants who are not U.S. lawful permanent residents, U.S. Citizens, or have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., not a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), otherwise known as a U.S. Person), employment will be contingent on the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
