We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineering Project Manager to join the Asset Delivery team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

The Asset Delivery team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The Asset Delivery department is accountable for delivering the Capital Construction Programme. This is achieved by delivering intelligent Totex solutions, through collaboration, for sustainable out-performance. The Department is also accountable for commercial and contractual arrangements across the supply chain and to deliver leading and world class contract management processes.

The purpose of the department is to achieve best value for money from our Capital Programme, by optimising our resources, monitoring and tracking the effectiveness and efficiency of our supply chain commercial arrangements, through;

  • Reducing cycle time in the project delivery process;
  • Maintaining, or enhance service;
  • Embracing a collaborative approach through our supply chain;
  • Working in a safe environment;
  • Delivering out performance against targets identified in collaborative out performance plans.

Specialist Projects is a stream within Asset Delivery led by Engineers from various disciplines. Undertaking the roles of Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor we manage the end to end design process and utilise a wide ranging supply chain to deliver engineering construction schemes across Clean Water, Waste Water and Networks.

Where you fit in:

As our Senior Engineering Project Manager you will;

  • Be responsible for project managing a planned programme of capital and revenue funded MEICA scopes of work
  • Provide management and technical guidance for compliance and implementation of the Construction Design Management (CDM) requirements for projects as appropriate acting as Principal Designer and managing the end to end design process.
  • Lead and manage the project teams to deliver excellent performance by setting clear expectations linked to business targets, having meaningful performance discussions that recognise and reward the right performance and behaviours and challenges where individual performance and behaviours do not meet expectations.
  • Act as the Appointed Person responsible for representing Yorkshire Water on Health & Safety matters covering all aspects of the Control of Work within designated projects. This will include the provision of technical advice, support and reporting on safety issues, investigations and recommendations regarding Health and Safety.
  • Co-ordinate and control all contract documentation and financial reporting in line with the programme management plan.
  • Proactively engage with the Business Support services for Procurement as their advisor and consultant providing support in creating technical contract specifications, tenders and the tendering process within the scope of their discipline. This includes the setting of technical KPIs and advising on the performance of contracts at periodic contract reviews.
  • Manage activities in order to ensure robust financial management and commercial awareness form the foundation of all business decisions in line with Yorkshire water strategy.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Incorporated Engineer with relevant engineering-based qualifications.
  • Significant, proven industry relevant engineering project management experience for contracts delivered in a regulated medium to large scale industrial/chemical process environment.
  • Experience of managing and leading a technical/engineering team with a proven track record of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets
  • Working knowledge and use of MS Project Manager or another recognised PM software to project manage multiple contracts and scopes of work.
  • Able to demonstrate strong business planning, resource and budget management and ability to balance risk and value in all decisions.
  • Able to understand and practically discuss the relevant aspects of technical and process safety related activities and documentation ie; Engineering Risk Assessment/Safety Reviews, Functional Design Specifications, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Electrical/Loop drawings, HAZOP, FMEA as they relate to the delivery of the contract specification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts into more readily understood information suitable for a wider business audience, able to influence people across multifunctional teams throughout the business.

You will also benefit from having:

  • Professional member and/or qualification in Project Management (eg; PRINCE2, Six Sigma etc)
  • Asset management experience within a large-scale engineering or process related industry
  • Experience of technical contract management, tender review and setting of technical KPIs.
  • Previous experience gained within the water or waste water sectors or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors.
  • Experience of leading and embedding change, able to influence and drive right culture and behaviours.

  • Experience of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets
  • Previous experience in a commercially orientated and / or regulated environment.
  • Has knowledge of the range of equipment within the Water Industry - including high pressure/temperature waste processing facilities, CHP and high voltage equipment
