At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we'll give you what you need to make it happen. It won't always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you'll never run alone. Run what runs the world.

This Position reports to:
R&D Team Lead

Details
  • Period: 5 months (January/February - June/July)
  • Number of credits: 30 ECTS
  • Number of students for this thesis work: 2
  • Location: ABB Research Center (Västerås)

Your role and responsibilities

Industrial communication systems are becoming increasingly complex, making monitoring and maintenance harder than ever before. Industry needs novel approaches to provide failure prediction that can support the complexity of the communication systems. State space AI models are a promising solution to model complex problems with lower resources than other AI models, such as transformers.

Scope:

State Space Models (SSMs), like Mamba, rely only on the current state of the system to predict, making them more lightweight than other AI solutions. The aim of this thesis is to study how a communication system can be modelled to predict failures using AI State Space Models.

Goals:
  • Propose a model of communication failures suitable for state space AI models, e.g., based on graphs
  • Evaluate the proposed model using the Mamba SSM

Approach:

The work will encompass the following tasks:
  • Get familiar with SSMs
  • Get familiar with communication failure modelling
  • Use the knowledge gathered in 1 and 2 to propose a communication failure model for SSMs
  • Evaluate the model using SAMBA or other identified tool

Qualifications for the role
  • Computer Science or similar
  • Preferably a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Smart Systems, or an equivalent specialization
  • Drive and interest to address real-world problems
  • Good soft skills and collaborative spirit
