Job Description Summary

The Quality Project Manager is primarily responsible for leading and managing the quality aspects of the transfer of products and processes whether introducing new products, relocating production lines, introduction and qualification of new equipment, or scaling up manufacturing of complex aerospace components to support operational expansion. This role ensures that all aspects of the transfer meet the highest industry standards for quality, regulatory compliance, and efficiency, with a particular emphasis on machining, NDT, and special processes for intricate aerospace parts. The ideal candidate possesses strong expertise in both quality management and the technical requirements of aerospace product and process transfers.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the quality aspects of product transfer and manufacturing processes, including the transition of machining operations for complex aerospace parts between production sites or into new lines. Oversee pilot runs, process validations, and ramp-up activities, ensuring minimal disruption and full alignment with aerospace quality standards.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive quality plans specifically tailored for transfer activities, defining transfer objectives, milestones, and metrics. Ensure that transfer projects adhere to organizational timelines and aerospace industry requirements.
  • Coordinate the qualification of processes to GE Aerospace requirements, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards
  • Monitor the quality of transferred processes and products, conducting audits and inspections before, during, and after transfer to ensure compliance with GE Aerospace procedures and standards such as AS9100 and NADCAP. All product and process qualifications must be executed in strict accordance with GE Aerospace requirements, ensuring that every aspect of the transfer process aligns with customer-specific guidelines and expectations.
  • Develop and oversee First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) per AS9102 for transferred or newly launched products. Validate process capability through MSA, gage R&R, capability studies (Cp, Cpk), and control plans.
  • Act as the primary liaison between engineering, manufacturing, quality teams, suppliers, and customers throughout the transfer process. Communicate transfer status, quality performance, and risk mitigation plans to all stakeholders.
  • Identify risks associated with product and process transfers, including those unique to aerospace machining, and develop strategies to address and mitigate them, ensuring continuity and compliance. Conduct PFMEAs and risk assessments to mitigate risks associated with machining, special processes, and NDT transfers.
  • Lead efforts to standardize and optimize manufacturing and quality processes as they are transferred, driving continuous improvement and leveraging lessons learned to enhance future projects.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation throughout the transfer, ensuring all process changes, validations, and quality records meet aerospace regulatory standards and GE Aerospace requirements for product and process qualification.
  • Coordinate training for staff at receiving sites on new or transferred processes, emphasizing quality control in machining and aerospace-specific requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, Project Management, or a relevant field.
  • Proven experience managing product and process transfers in aerospace or advanced manufacturing, with a focus on machining complex components.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace quality systems (AS9100, NADCAP), GE Aerospace qualification requirements, transfer methodologies, and advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management, quality, and manufacturing tools/software.
  • Certifications such as PMP, Six Sigma, or AS9100 Lead Auditor are an asset.

Desired Characteristics
  • Attention to detail, especially during complex transitions
  • Leadership and change management capabilities
  • Adaptability and proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Customer-oriented and results-driven mindset
  • Expertise in aerospace product and process transfer
  • Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn
  • Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively
  • Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed
  • Leadership ability: strong communicator, decision-maker, collaborative
  • Problem solver: analytical-minded, challenges existing processes, critical thinker
