The Tunnels & Marine Works Expert is responsible for reviewing and validating EPC Contractor designs and construction methodologies for tunnels and bridges in marine environments. This role requires specialized expertise in underwater foundations, coastal engineering, and understanding the impact of marine conditions on the performance and durability of infrastructure assets.
General Description of Role and Responsibilities:
- Review structural and geotechnical designs for tunnels and bridges located in or near marine environments, ensuring compliance with safety, durability, and performance standards.
- Assess the impact of tides, currents, salinity, and other marine factors on construction methods and long-term asset integrity.
- Provide technical oversight of underwater tunneling techniques, including Cut & Cover, Bored Tunnels (TBM), and Immersed Tunnel (IMT) technologies.
- Evaluate and support the design and operational planning of Dry Dock and Floating Dock facilities, particularly for casting, floating, towing, and sinking tunnel segments.
- Coordinate with marine engineers, structural designers, and construction teams to ensure constructability and mitigate risks in marine settings.
- Advise on material selection, corrosion protection, and maintenance strategies for submerged or coastal infrastructure.
- Ensure marine works are planned and executed in accordance with environmental regulations and maritime authority requirements.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil, Structural, or Marine Engineering.
- Extensive experience in tunnel and bridge design, construction, and inspection in marine or coastal environments.
- Deep knowledge of underwater foundations, corrosion protection, and coastal engineering principles.
- Proven experience with TBM, Cut & Cover, and Immersed Tunnel technologies.
- Strong understanding of marine environmental factors affecting infrastructure durability.
- Familiarity with relevant international codes and standards for marine and tunnel works.
- Excellent project management, coordination, and risk assessment skills.
- Minimum 12 - 15 years of relevant experience in large-scale civil infrastructure projects, including tunnels and bridges in marine environments.
- Demonstrated track record of technical leadership and decision-making in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience liaising with regulatory authorities, environmental agencies, and maritime organizations.
