Shape the Future of Maritime Infrastructure
Are you ready to grow your engineering career in a dynamic and collaborative environment? At Tetra Tech RPS, we're looking for an ambitious and adaptable Project Engineer to join our long-established Maritime Engineering team in Belfast.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a diverse range of maritime infrastructure projects-from ports and harbours to coastal defences and marine terminals. We deliver innovative solutions to clients diverse needs with many flagship projects including Loch Ryan Port, Cork Container Terminal and Dinish Wharf Expansion. Whether you're actively seeking your next challenge or open to exploring new possibilities, this role offers the chance to develop your technical skills and contribute to projects that shape the future of coastal infrastructure.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a key member of our technical delivery team, you will play an integral role in supporting maritime team leaders in the provision of high-quality design services to clients across the ports and maritime sectors. Your work will span a variety of responsibilities, including the concept, preliminary, and detailed design of civil and maritime infrastructure. You'll contribute to the production of design drawings and technical reports, assist with contract administration, and carry out site inspections and structural condition assessments.
Reporting to the Director of Ports and Maritime, you'll be part of a passionate and collaborative team delivering innovative solutions across the UK and Ireland. This position offers excellent training, mentoring, and development opportunities, supported by our structured career pathways and professional development initiatives.
Your Impact in this Position
You'll gain hands-on experience supporting the design and delivery of maritime projects, develop your technical capabilities, and build trusted relationships with engineers and clients. You'll be confidently contributing to multidisciplinary design teams and helping shape infrastructure that supports sustainable coastal development.
Success in this role is measured through technical accuracy, collaboration, and contribution to project delivery. With clear pathways for growth and the chance to make a meaningful impact, this is a role where your development and achievements are actively supported.
Your Toolkit for Success at Tetra Tech RPS
At Tetra Tech RPS, we recruit using core capabilities-the essential skills, experience, and responsibilities required to perform the role effectively.
But we'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as the 'perfect' candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
Technical Competence
This role requires a strong foundation in civil and structural engineering principles, with the ability to apply them across a range of maritime infrastructure projects. You should be proficient in using industry-standard design software and have experience working to Eurocodes. Familiarity with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and Microsoft Office is essential for producing high-quality technical documentation and drawings. A solid understanding of health and safety practices is also important, particularly in the context of marine and coastal environments. We're looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and eager to take on new challenges-someone who can confidently contribute to technical delivery while continuously seeking opportunities to improve and innovate.
Problem Solving & Quality Assurance
Attention to detail and analytical thinking are key attributes for success in this role. You'll be expected to assess complex engineering problems and develop practical, effective solutions. The ability to work independently while also taking direction from senior engineers is crucial, especially when managing competing priorities or navigating technical constraints. You'll contribute to quality assurance processes, ensuring that all deliverables meet the highest standards of accuracy and compliance. Your problem-solving skills will be instrumental in maintaining project integrity and delivering results that align with client expectations and regulatory requirements.
Team Collaboration & Communication
Collaboration is at the heart of our approach, and you'll be working closely with colleagues across multiple disciplines to deliver integrated solutions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, enabling you to contribute effectively within a team and engage confidently with stakeholders. You'll be expected to prepare clear, logical engineering reports and communicate technical information in a way that is accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences. Your ability to foster positive working relationships and contribute to a supportive team environment will be key to achieving project success and maintaining our reputation for excellence.
