About the Role
The role of the External Network Installations & Projects Engineer involves coordinating, advising and planning of major and minor external ductwork, fibre and copper cable installation projects for colleges and university departments; ensuring adherence to relevant UK regulatory requirements, EEC standards and liaising with necessary people and groups where required, both internal to the University and external, including the city and county councils, major utilities and statutory authorities. These projects can typically cost £100k+ and any delays can have far-reaching consequences for the University, both financially and to its reputation.
About You
1. Exceptional organisational and prioritisation skills to enable delivery of a quality service in a complex, busy and ever-changing environment.
2. Demonstrable technical project management experience.
3. Proven supervisory and management skills necessary to direct contract staff while on university or college premises and in the public highway.
4. Ability to work flexibly, demonstrating resilience and the ability to re-prioritise work as required in a dynamic environment.
5. Proven time management skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
6. Demonstrable ability to show initiative and innovation in problem solving and maintain a proactive approach.
7. Excellent numeracy, literacy and communications skills, including the presentation of complex technical ideas and the production of accurate written documentation.
8. Ability to negotiate tactfully with members of the University and the general public at all levels.
9. A desire to learn about the latest techniques and technologies within the networking area.
10. Computer literacy
