This Position reports to:
R&D Team Lead
Your role and responsibilities:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB's operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.
 
The work model for the role is: #LI-Onsite
This role is contributing to the Power Device Physics team at ABB Corporate Research Center in Baden-Daettwil, Switzerland. ABB Corporate Research collaborates closely with ABB electrification, motion, and process automation business areas to develop the foundation for the next generation of ABB products. You would support the research team in experimental tasks, develop the laboratory prototypes and infrastructure, and contribute with your expertise to ABB's success by reinforcing our team of scientists and engineers.

You will be mainly accountable for:
- Developing and assembling laboratory prototypes, including the creation and optimization of 3D-printed models
- Executing experimental tasks and laboratory tests within the research team and performing subsequent data analysis
- Improving, identifying and fixing issues, and maintaining laboratory infrastructure
- Seeking feedback and guidance from manager and team members to improve performance and skills
You will join a highly motivated and multidisciplinary team that is passionate about materials, where you will be able to thrive.
Qualifications for the role:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical/Mechanical engineering, Energy Science, Physics, or related discipline (advanced B.Sc. or M.Sc.); official enrolment is essential
- Practical experience and established skills in general laboratory work
- Quick to learn new programs and technical skills; knowledge of CAD and experience in relevant programming software such LabView, MATLAB, or Python is a plus
- General experience with manufacturing methods and 3D printing tools are of advantage
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated mindset and ability to work independently, in addition to the ability to collaborate in a large research team
- Highly adept in time/workload management; able to multi-task on a variety of assignments and projects
- Fluent command of English, both written and spoken
