WHY JOIN THE TEAM?

The Commercial Procurement team serves as a strategic partner across all areas of the BBC, responsible for sourcing goods and services, managing key relationships with external suppliers and driving decarbonisation in our supply chain to enable the BBC to achieve its Net Zero targets. With a strong commercial and sustainability focus, our goal is always to deliver the best possible outcomes for the BBC.

As a Commercial Procurement Apprentice, you'll be involved in a wide range of activities. You'll collaborate with both the procurement team and wider business to determine the most effective approach for each project. Your role will include conducting market research, analysing data to provide valuable insights, and preparing tender documentation. You'll support the development and execution of third-party commercial strategies, learn how to assess and manage risk, embed environmental and social sustainability into our procurement decisions and ensure compliance with public procurement regulations. Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll be guided and supported by our experienced and dedicated team.

We're looking for 2 apprentices based a commutable distance from either our Glasgow or Cardiff offices for this role.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Commercial Procurement apprentice (PSC26), this is brilliant opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute - you will:

  • Assist with sourcing and selecting suppliers to choose the best outcome for the BBC based on quality, cost, and delivery needs
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, liaising, negotiating and addressing issues whilst fostering collaboration in order to ensure the best outcome for the BBC
  • Undertake market analysis to establish potential routes to market
  • Interpret, analyse and evaluate data throughout the procurement lifecycle
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with legal and organisational standards, managing risk effectively
  • Persuade and influence internal stakeholder ensuring they are supportive throughout the procurement projects
  • Understand and embed risk mitigation strategies for contracts with high environmental and social sustainability impacts.

You'll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job. This means you'll spend at least one day a week studying for a Level 4 Procurement and Supply Chain Practitioner apprenticeship (aligned with the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Diploma) with our learning provider, using its virtual delivery platform.

You will cover key aspects needed in any procurement roles such as:

  • Scope and Influence of Procurement
  • Defining business needs
  • Ethical and sustainable sourcing
  • Commercial negotiation and contracting
  • Supply relationships

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC, you must:
  • Be 18 years old or over by the time the apprenticeship begins in September 2026
  • Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship
  • Be legally eligible to work full-time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship
  • Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme, whether with the BBC or another organisation.

To apply for this scheme, you must also:
  • Not already hold a qualification in the same subject area at the same or a higher level than this apprenticeship
  • Have achieved Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above or National 5 (Scotland) at C or above or an equivalent qualification.

The BBC recognises that some people who are applying for a BBC Apprenticeship Scheme may need to relocate to a new location for the role and this might not be possible due to your personal financial constraints. Relocation support is offered to a limited number of apprentices each year and would be considered for this position, subject to meeting the relocation support qualifying criteria.
