Job Description Summary

Drives initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the Engineering function and interfaces with other functions to provide effective coordination of metrics, dashboards, functional processes, and cross-functional initiative coordination. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.
The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all special tooling designs, usage, and maintenance adhere to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Promote a culture of safety in tooling operations.
  • Lead the design, development, and validation of special tooling required for aerospace component repairs and overhauls.
  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and inventory management of special tooling to ensure availability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to identify opportunities for tooling improvements that enhance repair efficiency and reduce cycle times.
  • Develop and maintain tooling documentation, including design specifications, usage instructions, and maintenance schedules.
  • Train technicians and engineers on proper tooling usage and provide technical support for tooling-related issues.
  • Drive lean initiatives to optimize tooling processes, reduce waste, and improve overall shop performance.
  • Interface with internal and external customers to address tooling-related inquiries and ensure tooling solutions meet repair requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor ' s degree in engineering (mechanical, aerospace, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in special tooling design, development, or maintenance in an aerospace overhaul shop (MRO).
  • Experience with lean methodologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for tooling in aerospace applications.
  • Proficiency in tooling documentation and technical writing.
