JOB DESCRIPTION

We're looking for an Excel power-user who loves to automate, clean up chaos, and make things work. You'll help our SPS teams replace fragile, outdated Excel "monsters" with smart, structured, and database-driven solutions. This role is all about reducing risk, eliminating knowledge silos, and making sure our data lives in systems that are secure, scalable, and future-ready.

In the software development team, we focus on getting stuff done - not attending endless meetings. No Scrum rituals, no over-planning, just focus time, freedom, and ownership. You'll have the space to get in the zone, the trust to own your day, and the chance to work side by side with developers and end-users (right here at the office). And yes - up to two days of home office is part of the deal.

About the Company

At NOV, we deliver safe, high-quality, technology-driven equipment, services, and support that are essential to the global energy industry. Our mission is simple: we power the industry that powers the world.

At NOV's business unit Subsea Production Systems (SPS) we empower the energy sector with passion, expertise, and forward-thinking solutions. We develop reliable and efficient subsea energy production products that enhance our customers' energy portfolios. With strong roots in the offshore oil and gas industry, we are also at the forefront of future technologies such as water treatment, ammonia storage, carbon injection, and wind energy - helping to reduce CO₂ emissions and drive the energy transition.

SPS is headquartered in Brøndby, Denmark, with production sites in Kalundborg (DK), Porto do Acu (Br), Glenrothes (UK) and offices in Stavanger and Oslo (No), Rio de Janeiro ( Br), and Houston (US). Globally, our team includes around 1,500 dedicated professionals, contributing to NOV's workforce of approximately 34,000 employees.

Your title will be Excel Data Migration Specialist, and you will be working in SPS' software development team.

What We Offer

  • Be part of a team with very few meetings, no Scrum events, no excessive planning, priority to focus-time so you can get in the zone, a lot of agency and expectations that you are able to own your own workday in close collaboration with team members and end-users (they are in the office too).

  • A chance to make a real impact by closing the chapter on fragile, manual Excel systems and leading the shift to structured, scalable solutions.

  • Professional growth opportunities - from mastering automation and data engineering to advancing toward Python developer or data architect roles.

  • Hybrid work setup (up to 2 days home office).

  • A culture built on reliability, teamwork, and continuous improvement - bringing out the best in all of us as we deliver excellence together.

Core Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document existing Excel-based workflows across SPS teams.

  • Clean up, consolidate, and restructure complex Excel models and files.

  • Automate repetitive tasks using VBA, Python, or Power Query.

  • Build ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools for moving data into structured databases (SQL, Power BI datasets, etc.).

  • Collaborate with developers and IT to design scalable replacements for Excel-based processes.

  • Ensure data integrity, traceability, and version control in migration projects.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support training and change management for teams transitioning away from Excel-based tools.

  • Identify opportunities to improve data governance and process reliability.

  • Work with stakeholders to validate new system designs that reflect real-world user needs.

Essential Qualifications

  • Advanced Excel: Pivot Tables, Power Query, Power Pivot, macros, advanced formulas.

  • VBA Programming: Debugging, refactoring, automating business logic.

  • Scripting Languages: Python (preferred), R, or similar.

  • Database Knowledge: SQL queries, stored procedures, schema design basics.

  • Data Integration Tools: Power BI or equivalent.

  • Version Control: Git for managing scripts and automation code.

  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to untangle undocumented, legacy Excel files and re-engineer them into maintainable systems.

  • Excellent Communication: Translate technical details into clear insights for non-technical users.

  • Fluent English (spoken and written).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Azure, AWS, or Snowflake).

  • Familiarity with APIs for data integration.

  • Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and best practices.

  • Experience in industrial/manufacturing contexts or working with tacit knowledge challenges.

Soft Skills

  • Passionate, curious, and pragmatic - thrives in complex, unstructured environments.

  • Detail-oriented and analytical, yet able to see the big picture.

  • Comfortable challenging "the way things have always been done."

  • Collaborative mindset - works well with other developers, end- users and stakeholders.

  • Driven by reliability, trust, and innovation.

Join us in going beyond to shape the future of energy. Because energy matters.
