Your role and responsibilities

The High Power Division offers a comprehensive product portfolio, including customized designs for various industries. The division focuses on developing advanced drive systems and high-efficiency motors and generators, which are critical in various industrial applications.

Join Our Team as an R&D Engineer in the High Power Division in Helsinki. You will be part of our mechanical engineering team in Research and Development. In this position, you will contribute development and product upgrade tasks for synchronous product designs. You will have an opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, grow your skills in the field of mechanical engineering, and take next steps in your career. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to projects that significantly impact energy efficiency and sustainability.

The role requires approximately 50 % work time presence in our offices in Pitäjänmäki.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Ensuring and improving the mechanical performance of synchronous motors and generators
• Contributing to development of new products and to product upgrade of large motors and generators
• Conducting mechanical engineering in 2D and 3D environments
• PDM system engineering
• Executing tasks in new product development projects
• Working closely with Mechanical Engineers globally to ensure effective development
• Collaborating cross-functionally with sales, design, local and global manufacturing, and other ABB business lines

Qualifications for the role

• Experience of the design of welded and machined structures
• Knowledge of common manufacturing techniques used in mechanical engineering and their cost-effective application
• Experience of industrial machine engineering and proficiency 2D and 3D engineering software (e.g. AutoCad, NX)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Interest in product development and willingness to learn new things
• Teamwork skills in a multi-cultural environment
• Good written and spoken communication skills in Finnish and English, valid work permit in Finland
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering
