Details:
  • Start: February 2026
  • Duration: 20 weeks
  • Location: ABB Alingsås


Your role and responsibilities

To further reduce our carbon footprint of distribution cabinets we reassess all material choices, considering both current and anticipated future availability of raw materials. Your mission is to assess whether a new material concept meets the strict requirements of our products. This work is interdisciplinary, positioned at the intersection of materials science, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering.

Research topics
  • To evaluate a new material concept used in metallic parts of low-voltage cabinets

Goals
  • Assess if the new material concept is technically feasible for the intended application


Approach

The scope will be tailored to your background to meet the requirements of a degree project.

It may include:
  • Evaluating the thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties of new material concepts using experimental and/or numerical methods
  • Actively propose further improvements in materials and/or design
  • Assessing the impact on sustainability and total cost of ownership


Your background
  • You have a background in materials science, physics, solid mechanics, or electrical engineering
  • You are passionate about electrification and sustainability, and you're eager to learn beyond your current field of study
