The Job Profile
Simon & Schuster UK are looking for a Commissioning Editor to join our Audio team.
Reporting to the Audio and Simon Maverick UK, Publisher, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to commission their own audio list as well as managing wider S&S Audio publications.
The Job Role
The Commissioning Editor will acquire for the Simon Maverick list, geared towards publishing audiobooks from independent authors across genres including crime, thriller, fantasy, romance, horror, and LitRPG, responding to audio market trends. They will also oversee part of the wider S&S Audio list spanning Adult, YA, and Children's publishing. In addition to commissioning they will project-manage productions, coordinating with agencies and studios on casting and production, including on ambitious audio productions for high-priority titles, while keeping projects on schedule and within budget, as well as supporting the Audio Publisher with project work. They will collaborate with Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, Sales, and Operations to ensure that audio is fully integrated into the overall publishing programme.
The Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a creative and commercially minded Commissioning Editor with digital or audio publishing experience.
They should have a strong knowledge of genre fiction, the audio market and the independent author space, with excellent communication skills as well as the ability to build relationships within the industry.
They will have solid data analysis skills and experience evaluating and acquiring content, demonstrating the right balance of creative vision and commercial awareness. They will be organised and budget-conscious and be able to manage a list of audiobooks at varied stages of development across a range of genres and production approaches.
