The Heavy Lift Transport Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and executing safe and efficient transportation of oversized and overweight (OOG) cargo and heavy lift items for projects. This role involves managing logistics, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and overseeing the successful delivery of critical project components, often utilizing specialized transport equipment and methodologies.

The Heavy Lift Transport Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and executing safe and efficient transportation of oversized and overweight (OOG) cargo and heavy lift items for projects. This role involves managing logistics, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and overseeing the successful delivery of critical project components, often utilizing specialized transport equipment and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordination & Execution:
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and project management teams to integrate heavy lift transport into the overall project schedule.
- Liaise with carriers, freight forwarders, specialized transport contractors, rigging companies, and port authorities.
- Schedule and monitor all transport activities from origin to destination, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget.
- Oversee loading, securing, transport, and offloading operations, including the use of hydraulic modular trailers (HMTs), barges, and specialized cranes.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all transport operations comply with local, national, and international regulations, including weight restrictions, permits, customs, and road safety laws.
- Develop and enforce stringent safety protocols and quality control measures for all heavy lift activities.
- Manage the procurement of all necessary permits and government approvals for specialized transport.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all heavy lift documentation, including proof of delivery, permits, inspection reports, and operational logs.
- Provide regular status reports on transport progress, risks, and performance metrics to project management.
- Budget Management:
- Assist in the preparation of budgets for heavy lift transport costs.
- Monitor and control expenses, seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising safety or quality.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in logistics, with at least 3 years specifically managing heavy lift and/or project cargo transport in industries such as Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Construction, or Mining.
- Skills:
- Deep understanding of specialized transport equipment (ex: SPMTs, HMTs, jacking/skidding systems) and rigging principles.
- Proficiency in route analysis, load spreading calculations, and preparing technical method statements.
- Strong knowledge of international shipping and logistics documentation and transport regulations.
- Excellent communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and project schedules.
Preferred:
- Professional certification in Logistics, Project Management or Supply Chain.
- Experience with multi-modal transport (land, sea, and air) for OOG items.
- Familiarity with relevant health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards for heavy lift operations.
