Process and Safety Engineering is a part of the Engineering & Construction division in Shell Biogas. As the Senior Engineer for Process and Safety you will perform a specialist role with a focus on technical assurance and process safety in our greenfield-, brownfield- and asset improvement projects as well as standard product development.

Your closest colleagues will have their respective areas of expertise within engineering disciplines relevant to design and development of biogas plants and process safety. Along with the rest of the team it will be your responsibility to ensure the use of best practice within process and safety engineering, adherence to relevant legislation and standards and acting within the Shell Biogas SEAM framework.

You will receive guidelines from the Head of Process & Safety Engineering regarding the development of processes and prioritization of tasks but are otherwise expected to operate independently in your role and in accordance with internal procedures.

What is the role

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide expert process engineering support and technical assurance to operations, projects, and product development teams and ensure alignment with Shell's SEAM and AIPSM standards.
  • Lead or contribute to HEMP, HAZOP, and risk assessments to ensure robust process safety.
  • Develop and optimize process designs for greenfield, brownfield, and minor capital projects.
  • Act as technical authority for process documentation.
  • Assurance of select control points in the Shell Biogas project model.
  • Assure product and supplier compliance.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, and Product Management teams to ensure Design for Safety principles are embedded.
  • Participate in milestone reviews and contribute to the development of standardized engineering solutions.
  • Lead safety reviews and line walks on existing assets
  • Perform asset inspections and documentation reviews.
  • Build and maintain strong relations across the organization.
  • Support the organization in achieving its operational safety goals.
  • Contribute to UTC (unit technical cost) reductions.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and technical growth.
  • Participate in incident investigations.


What we need from you

You as a person think holistically and have a structured approach to problem solving and function best in a team of like-minded colleagues. You are an ambassador for best practice within the field of Process and Safety Engineering and adherence to the Shell Biogas ways of working. You are an engaging, approachable and a proactive knowledge leader with strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Quality is your trademark, and you thrive in the role of expert and specialist in your field where you bring a positive and service-minded attitude to every engagement with your colleagues. With an educational background in Engineering, Marine Engineering or in a Safety related field, you have at least 8 years of previous experience in a similar position, preferably within the biogas, gas or energy sector. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a prerequisite, Danish language skills would be beneficial.

You have knowledge of and experience with at least some of the areas of:

  • Process Safety & Risk Management: Deep understanding of hazard identification, barrier thinking, and RAM risk management.
