Research Engineer: Power Electronics
GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation
Job Description Summary
Activities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Work in this family typically has the objective of demonstrating through test or analyses the performance and implementation potential of a concept
Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.
Job Description
We are looking to grow our AI Systems at GE Aerospace Research & are looking for top notch researchers to be part of this exciting journey. As a group, we innovate and execute on the R&D strategy for GE Aerospace on a range of problems from designing inspections solutions for aircraft engines to building predictive/prescriptive analytics for a variety of applications that improve process efficiencies in the business.
Site Overview
Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center. Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing.
Roles and responsibilities
Model and analyze systems: Develop and validate models for aircraft power distribution, hybrid electric propulsion, and more‑electric propulsion. Design power converters: Architect and build advanced converters and high‑frequency resonant topologies for aerospace applications. Implement controls in hardware: Deploy control algorithms on FPGA/microcontrollers; transition designs from simulation to hardware. Ensure compliance and robustness: Design for EMI/EMC, thermal, and packaging constraints suitable for aerospace environments. Prototype and test: Lead PCB/hardware builds; execute test plans across model‑in‑the‑loop, HIL, and bench/rig validation (Opal‑RT/RT Box/dSPACE). Communicate and deliver: Present findings to stakeholders; drive projects to meet scope, quality, and schedule in cross‑functional teams.
Required Qualifications
Desired Characteristics
At GE Aerospace, we have a relentless dedication to the future of safe and more sustainable flight and believe in our talented people to make it happen. Here, you will have the opportunity to work on really cool things with really smart and collaborative people. Together, we will mobilize a new era of growth in aerospace and defense. Where others stop, we accelerate.
