Overview:
Chevron is seeking a Senior IT Cybersecurity Engineer with technical experience in the security of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, including agentic AI to secure associated autonomous decisions and actions. In this role you will design and implement security controls to protect AI models, data pipelines, and agentic AI agents from emerging threats, cyber threat actors, and misuse. The Senior IT Cybersecurity Engineer will collaborate with data scientists, software and cybersecurity engineers, and IT architects to ensure secure-by-design requirements are integrated throughout the AI and agentic AI lifecycle. This approach includes collaboration in the design of threat models for autonomous agents, monitoring for unintended behaviors, and developing safeguards to prevent malicious exploitation.

Overview:
Chevron is seeking a Senior IT Cybersecurity Engineer with technical experience in the security of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, including agentic AI to secure associated autonomous decisions and actions. In this role you will design and implement security controls to protect AI models, data pipelines, and agentic AI agents from emerging threats, cyber threat actors, and misuse. The Senior IT Cybersecurity Engineer will collaborate with data scientists, software and cybersecurity engineers, and IT architects to ensure secure-by-design requirements are integrated throughout the AI and agentic AI lifecycle. This approach includes collaboration in the design of threat models for autonomous agents, monitoring for unintended behaviors, and developing safeguards to prevent malicious exploitation.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Ensure secure-by-design for AI solutions with a high focus on delivering secure digital capabilities.
- Engage with other technical functions to establish security governance for IT technologies, including artificial intelligence.
- Document and socialize the severity of cyber security risks associated with AI and agentic AI.
- Design tactical solutions to address identified gaps in Chevron's AI security controls.
- Work with threat intelligence, risk management, and non-cybersecurity personnel to build a common understanding of Chevron's AI security posture, detailing and prioritizing improvements as necessary.
- Assist with engineering work across other cybersecurity domains as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Software Engineering or similar field.
- 8+ years of experience in two or more cybersecurity domains (Cloud, Application, Network, Data, etc.).
- Understanding of unique risks introduced by agentic AI, such as autonomous decision-making, unintended behaviors and malicious exploitation.
- Experience in identifying security gaps and developing mitigation plans for complex systems.
- General understanding of the cyber threat landscape, including cyber-criminal and cyber-espionage threats.
- High-performing individual contributor with strong communication skills and proven ability to influence stakeholders effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CISSP, GIAC, or equivalent cybersecurity certification, preferably focused on AI or Application Security
- 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity.
- Experience in application development, developing secure applications, or identifying security vulnerabilities of applications.
- Experience in designing and implementing security controls for agentic AI systems.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for cybersecurity and/or data privacy.
- Experience in scaled agile or working with scrum teams.
- Knowledge of industry-accepted cyber security frameworks such as NIST, MITRE ATT&CK, and the Cyber Kill Chain.
