Job Summary

The Leader of Enterprise Architecture is responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and execution of enterprise architecture across the organization. This role ensures technology investments align with business objectives, drives digital transformation, and enables innovation at scale. The leader will build and mentor a high-performing architecture team, cultivate cross-functional collaboration, and serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.

Position Overview

Key accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute the enterprise architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and digital transformation initiatives
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of enterprise and solution architects; develop a culture of inclusion, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with business and IT leaders to define technology roadmaps, standards, and governance processes
  • Engage with the Security and Risk organization to develop secure architecture patterns and practices, and to review existing solutions for compliance and remediation
  • Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and cost-effective technology solutions
  • Drive adoption of cloud, data, and emerging technologies to enable business agility and operational excellence
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Represent the organization in executive forums, industry events, and with external partners as needed
  • Present to large groups and/or non-technical executive and business leaders on IT and architecture concepts


Technical responsibilities:

  • Own and evolve the enterprise architecture framework (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman, or similar) and ensure its adoption across the organization
  • Architect and govern hybrid and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), including cloud migration, cloud-native design, and cost optimization
  • Lead the design and integration of enterprise data platforms, including data lakes, data warehouses, and advanced analytics/AI/ML capabilities
  • Oversee the implementation of cybersecurity architecture, including zero trust, identity and access management (IAM), and regulatory compliance (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001)
  • Guide the modernization of legacy systems, application rationalization, and the adoption of microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures
  • Champion DevSecOps, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and automation best practices
  • Establish and enforce architecture standards for interoperability, scalability, performance, and disaster recovery
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies (e.g., GenAI, IoT, edge computing, blockchain) for business impact and innovation
  • Lead architectural governance boards and ensure solution alignment with enterprise standards
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies
  • Strong understanding of service-oriented architecture, object-oriented analysis and design, and legacy n-tier client/server systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with an ability to communicate complex information to multiple levels of the organization, including executives


Performance metrics:

  • Strategy Alignment: % of technology initiatives and projects aligned to the enterprise architecture roadmap and business strategy
  • Cloud & Modernization: % of workloads migrated to cloud or modernized platforms; reduction in legacy technical debt
  • Cost Optimization: Year-over-year reduction in IT infrastructure and application costs attributable to architectural decisions
  • Security & Compliance: Number of critical security incidents; % of systems compliant with regulatory and internal standards
  • Innovation Adoption: Number of successful pilots or scaled deployments of emerging technologies (AI/ML, IoT, etc.)
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Stakeholder (business and IT) satisfaction scores with architecture services and engagement
  • Team Development: Retention rate of architecture team; % of team with advanced certifications; internal promotions
  • Governance Effectiveness: % of projects reviewed and approved by architecture governance boards; reduction in solution exceptions
  • Operational Resilience: % improvement in system uptime, disaster recovery readiness, and incident response times
  • Business Impact: Quantifiable business outcomes (e.g., revenue growth, operational efficiency, risk reduction) directly enabled by architecture initiatives


Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field or foreign equivalent
  • 10 or more years of progressive experience in IT


Preferred:

  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field or foreign equivalent
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS/Azure/GCP Architect, CISSP, CISM, PMP)
  • 15 or more years of dynamic experience in IT, with at least 5 years in enterprise architecture leadership roles
  • Experience building and managing high-performing teams
  • Experience with cybersecurity architecture, regulatory compliance, and risk management
  • Experience in the energy sector or other asset-intensive industries
  • Experience with M&A, digital transformation, or operational excellence programs
