To provide materials Engineering support for Engineering, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and quality departments at various Weatherford locations. Conduct materials Engineering projects to enhance the function, profitability or marketability of Weatherford products. Perform detailed failure analyses and make recommendations to prevent/minimize failure reoccurrence.

Responsibilities

  1. Failure Analysis
  • Determine the failure mode(s) of downhole equipment through detailed materials-related investigations.
  • Document findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Work with an offsite metallurgical technician ensuring that project scheduling is up to date.
  • Coordinate with third-party labs for advanced testing when required.
  • Conduct a periodic review meeting with Engineering manager, product line managers, and/or external customers outlining current failures, failure trends, and progress updates.


  1. Support
  • Provide technical metallurgical support for engineering, manufacturing, marketing & sales and quality departments at various locations.
  • Present both verbal and written analyses of parts and assemblies relating to material quality issues, failure analysis, and product improvement.
  • Manage projects involving product/process improvement for current Weatherford products
  • Provide status update of all current projects.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for any material concerns in the sucker rod manufacturing plants globally.
  • Occasionally prepare failed specimen on-site for analysis
  1. India Metals Testing Laboratory Oversight
  • Set up and commission laboratory equipment for local testing.
  • Develop and implement a roadmap for the lab to become a Coating Center of Excellence.
  • Define in-house vs. outsourced testing capabilities.
  • Establish a centralized tool for storing and sharing test data across the enterprise.
  1. Special Process Audits
  • Collaborate with India SQE team to audit supplier processes.
  • Assess supplier capabilities for Weatherford products.
  • Align audit procedures with global standards in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  1. Product Line Training
  • Attend engineering training sessions to understand product design and manufacturing.
  • Gain expertise in materials of construction and their selection rationale.


Qualifications

Required Skills:
  • Bachelors degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Engineering.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in metallurgy, failure analysis, or materials testing.
  • Experience with conducting root-cause failure analysis involving various modes of metallic failures.
  • Experience reconstructing failure events with limited findings.
  • Experience with writing technical failure reports including detailed findings. Proficient in use of computer word processor and spreadsheet software.
  • Experienced with using non-destructive testing techniques including dye penetrant testing, eddy current, and magnetic particle testing
  • Experienced in conducting fracture surface analysis to determine cause of failure.
  • Experience with examining a specimen and determining mode of failure resulting from corrosion, fatigue, overload, shear, plastic deformation, and/or abrasion.
  • Ability to understand the necessary testing/examination processes required to determine the cause of failure
  • Thorough understanding of the available metallurgical equipment and their capabilities required for specific tests.
  • Possesses hands-on experience performing the following functions

    Grinding

    Polishing

    Etching

    Surface hardness measurement
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing through memos and engineering reports.
  • Understanding of mechanical and structural components as it relates to materials engineering assessments and recommendations.
  • Familiarity with lab setup, testing standards, and supplier audits.
  • Hands-on experience in conducting metallurgical failure investigations.
  • Knowledge of coating systems, corrosion mechanisms, and surface treatments.
  • Experience working with third-party labs and interpreting test results.
  • Understanding of special processes such as welding, heat treatment, and surface finishing.


Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in oil & gas or heavy engineering preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of metallurgical testing methods and international standards.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams.
  • Proficiency in data management and reporting tools.
  • Project management and planning skills.
