Construction Manager (Pharma ? Data Center Transition)
Contract Length: 1 Year (with strong likelihood of extension through 2026)
Location: Kankakee, IL (first 2 weeks), then Buffalo, NY (remainder of contract)
Travel: All expenses covered during the 2-week rotation in Kankakee
Ideal Candidate Location: Buffalo, NY
Position Overview
We're seeking a motivated and early-career Construction Manager who is eager to expand their experience into pharmaceutical and data center construction environments. This is an excellent opportunity for a “greener” CM who has strong foundational construction knowledge and is ready to train, learn, and grow under an established global engineering and consulting firm.
The selected candidate will begin with a two-week assignment on a pharmaceutical project in Kankakee, IL, gaining exposure to pharma construction processes, documentation, safety, and quality control. Following this onboarding period, the CM will transition to a large-scale data center project in Buffalo, NY, where they will remain for the duration of the year (with anticipated extension through 2026).
This role offers hands-on mentorship, long-term project stability, and a pathway into two highly in-demand industry sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Support daily site management activities under senior leadership on both pharma and data center projects.
Assist with planning, scheduling, coordinating subcontractor activities, and maintaining project logs.
Conduct site walks and assist with tracking progress, reporting field conditions, and identifying potential risks or delays.
Help monitor safety compliance, quality standards, and adherence to project specifications.
Participate in construction meetings, reviewing documentation, RFIs, change orders, and updates.
Collaborate with engineering, safety, procurement, and owner's representatives to ensure smooth project execution.
Maintain accurate daily reports, field notes, and communication logs.
Learn and adapt to pharma-specific procedures (clean room protocols, QA/QC documentation, GMP-related expectations) during the initial rotation.
Transition into supporting the data center project, including managing trade contractors, tracking installations, and coordinating punch list and closeout activities.
Qualifications
1-4 years of construction experience (Field Engineer, Assistant CM, Project Engineer, or similar).
Strong desire to grow into complex sectors like pharma, mission-critical, or data centers.
Ability to learn quickly, follow structured processes, and work with technical teams.
Solid understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and field coordination.
Excellent communication, organization, and reporting skills.
Willingness to travel for the initial 2-week Kankakee rotation (expenses covered).
Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar tools is a plus but not required.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred but not mandatory if experience aligns.
Why This Role Is a Strong Opportunity
Direct path into pharma and data center markets—two of the most stable and high-growth segments in construction.
Hands-on mentorship from senior Ramboll construction and engineering leadership.
Long-term visibility: full year contract with likely extension through end of 2026.
All travel costs covered for the initial onboarding project.
