Job Description Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist reports to the GE Lafayette Plant Leader and works in a self-directed teaming structure. This person will work closely with the Site EHS Leader, EHS Specialist, EHS Focals, and EHS Council to drive a combination of strategic and tactical Environmental Health and Safety priorities.

GE Lafayette has been in operation since 2015 and currently supports LEAP and Passport programs for New Make and MRO. The site's culture is designed around a flat organization that empowers self-directed, high performing teams. By utilizing teams of GE employees to own, operate, and regulate assembly processes we ensure our engines reach the customer in a quality and timely fashion. Teams, councils, and teaming are the back bone of daily operations within GE Lafayette.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Participation in Gemba walks, audits, and contractor auditing
  • Utilize FLIGHT DECK tools to support safety concern investigations with submitter and EHS council representatives, submit work orders, and ensure countermeasure implementation
  • Participate in and improve Management of Change process
  • Facilitate monthly, quarterly, and annual rhythm for Safety Framework baselines and auditing
  • Support Safety Risk Assessments - annual reviews, workstation heat maps, and strength of defenses
  • Review and maintain written programs and policies
  • Complete injury assessment form investigations
  • Lead EHS training (Introductory EHS, Fire extinguisher, Ergo, Powered Industrial Truck, Crane & Hoist)
  • Assist with annual environmental permitting and update as needed (written permit and Enhesa)
  • Assist in upholding compliance through Gensuite Compliance Calendar tasks
  • Oversee waste management system and contractor support
    • Complete weekly, monthly, and quarterly inspections
    • RCRA & DOT Management
    • Create waste profiles, track waste generator status, schedule and assist with waste shipments
  • Support events onsite including Kaizens, SFMEAs, VSMs, Shingi events
  • SDS review
  • Participate in program and site daily management rhythms
  • Support weekly EHS council
  • Participate in the Crisis Management Team


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety)
