JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Role

As a Senior Hydraulic Systems Engineer, you will lead the hydraulic engineering scope for subsea and topside hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in APL's turret mooring systems. You will define hydraulic design bases, develop system drawings, optimize system performance, and support construction and commissioning activities. This role is central to ensuring safe, robust, and high-performing hydraulic solutions across complex offshore installations.

About the Company

NOV APL, located on Hisøy outside Arendal, is a part of NOV Marine & Construction and a global leader in advanced offshore loading and mooring technologies. For more than 30 years, we have developed and delivered innovative turret mooring systems, loading/offloading solutions, and marine technology to the international oil & gas and renewable energy sectors. With more than 80 offshore installations worldwide-operating in water depths ranging from shallow coastal sites to deepwater fields-our solutions are recognized for their reliability, engineering excellence, and cost efficiency.

At NOV APL, we value a strong culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Our multidisciplinary environment combines project management and engineering excellence, offering employees the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact projects that shape the future of offshore energy.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to contribute to major, long-term offshore projects, from early study phases through to final operational systems.
  • Collaboration across mechanical, process, piping, and instrumentation engineering
  • Be part of a multinational engineering team in a supportive environment that values curiosity, learning, and motivation.
  • Actively collaborate with industry-leading international clients and work with advanced offshore technologies.
  • The work you do will result in real hydraulic systems that are deployed in live oil and gas operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct general hydraulic system design and perform hydraulic calculations for offshore projects.
  • Establish hydraulic design basis documents and maintain alignment across all hydraulic components.
  • Develop hydraulic block diagrams, system drawings, and interface drawings for turret mooring systems.
  • Collaborate closely with package engineers responsible for hydraulically interfaced equipment.
  • Select hydraulic tubing, fittings, and materials for system development.
  • Review 3D models of tubing, hydraulic piping, and cable trays.
  • Prepare material take-off lists for tubing and fittings.
  • Define hydraulic mechanical completion (MC) activities and test procedures.
  • Support fabrication teams through technical assistance, construction follow-up and testing activities.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in fluid power or hydraulic engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge and strong interest in hydraulic engineering.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for hydraulic system drawings.
  • Strong analytical skills enabling optimisation of hydraulic system performance.
  • Broad technical understanding of related disciplines (process, piping, mechanical, instrumentation).
  • Strong communication skills in English.
  • Experience with process and hydraulic valves and valve control systems
  • Knowledge of hydraulic operated mechanical equipment

Desired Qualifications

  • Norwegian language skills.

Soft Skills

  • Curious and positive mindset with a collaborative approach
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary project teams
