Rig Mechanic

Job Purpose
Supervise and participate in the mechanical maintenance and repair of all engines and equipment on
assigned rig covering diesel engines, air compressors, pumps, draw works, and B.O.P. Includes servicing,
diagnosing faults, diverting and/or carrying out necessary repairs. Liaise with Maintenance
Superintendent/Engineer in planning and scheduling preventive maintenance program.
Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 1)
Supervises, directs and controls the activities of assigned Company or contract personnel engaged in
mechanical/maintenance and repair aboard assigned rig. Performs supervisory functions at the level
established by management for the position.
• Ensures that daily and weekly routine maintenance are performed by checking daily log and identifies
anomalous situations, such as excessive use of lube oil, coolant or fuel, initiates or undertakes
investigation to establish and remedy the cause.
• Investigates breakdowns, assesses level of skill necessary to perform repairs and assigns work to
subordinates or, alternatively, directs and participates personally in repairs. Determines
spares/materials necessary and authorises issue from store or requests ordering from shore by
completing necessary documents.
• Undertakes engine overhauls by directing subordinates, stripping engine, checking/repairing/replacing
parts and reassembling engine. Attends tests to ensure good operation. Such tasks are undertaken
when the engine can be released from use and involves the occasional manufacture or modification of
parts. Performs temporary repairs on running machinery or recommends adjustment to running speed
to maintain machine/equipment availability.
• Liaises and co-ordinates with electrical maintenance personnel in respect of mechanical involvement
in electrical maintenance and repair or electrical involvement in mechanical maintenance and repair.
• Participates in rig move activities as required in the Rig Move preparation list which incorporates the
rigging down and rigging up of mechanical equipment as necessary including the supervision of the
handling of such equipment.
• Supervises lifting activity on rig-site whenever required and particularly when complex lifts are
undertaken.
Job Specific Accountabilities (Part 2)
Completes log book and regular report showing machine running hours, problems encountered, tasks
undertaken, materials/parts used, fuel and lubricant used. This includes calculating fuel, water and
lubricant required.
• Liaises with Manager (Rig) Materials/Accounting Supervisor on assigned rig to ensure maintenance of
an adequate supply of spare parts in store, for regular requirements, guided by usage and previous or
historical consumption rates. Advises on spare part interchangeability as required.
• Carries out other similar or related duties such as observing rig safety procedures, practising good
housekeeping, checking and maintaining camp engines and safety standby generator.
• Comply with all UAE, ADNOC, ADNOC Drilling and client Asset Integrity Management codes of
practice.
Minimum Qualification
• B.Sc. in Engineering discipline preferably Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
8 years' experience in mechanical maintenance preferably on an onshore/offshore drilling rig.
• Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
• Computer literate
