To be based in our Birmingham or Derby office we are recruiting a senior individual to support the growth and development of our Transport Planning offer and to be a key player in pivoting our client base to the Midlands and the North of England.
As a senior leader in the business, you will act as the focal point for others, helping to grow our workload, capacity and capabilities. You will also focus on the leadership and management of our most technically challenging projects across our client base. We can offer access to a strong local authority client portfolio. In addition to local authorities, we also work with national/regional bodies, and the private sector so you can expect a strong local project flavour with a national reach. The industry is dynamic, and we're always looking forward to supporting our clients to meet a digital and Net Zero future. You'll be trusted to lead projects and client interface and we're ready to help you grow.
Collaborating with specialists from across our business as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you'll work on a range of Transport Planning projects. You will play a key role in supporting the technical development of the wider team and provide thought leadership across Movement and Place and related disciplines to continually improve our client offering. Making the most of your existing industry profile, transport planning knowledge and experience you will help raise our profile and develop successful relationships with key clients, Department for Transport and other key industry players and clients.

Your role
- The Growth Director is responsible for leading delivery of our business plan and growth in the Midlands and the North, collaborating with other parts of Movement and Place for resource management for bids and projects, recruitment, and leveraging growth in the region's capacity through supporting staff development and recruitment.
- Work winning and delivery - aligning the practice to client accounts identified in the Transportation business plan.
- Technical leadership - ensuring that our Movement and Place team deploys and continually develops the best technical and management solutions for our clients, and that we strive for and promote technical excellence. This is expected to include taking roles as Project Director or Technical Reviewer on our most strategically important commissions.
- Ensuring we have sufficient resources with the right skills to deliver our current and future market strategies. This includes those within the practice, colleagues in our GTC and through our supply chain partners.
- Promote Movement and place and wider AtkinsRéalis externally.
- Support the Movement and Place Practice Director in delivering the performance targets for the wider practice.
- The Growth Director role is expected to blend client-facing project delivery and work- winning activities and overall practice leadership. The role will work as part of the Movement and Place leadership team, supporting the delivery of our core service lines as part of a national business.
About you
Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate a capability in any of the following:
- A proven track record in Transport Planning at a senior level and high profile in the industry.
- Strong client and industry relationships and the ability to build on these, including the ability to influence at all levels.
- Background in transport planning with experience in working across a range of projects for multiple clients.
- Experience of growing a portfolio of clients and projects.
- Experience of growing teams.
- Membership of relevant technical institutions - e.g. CIHT, CILT, ICE, RTPI.
