Trenching Supervisor
Short description
We are seeking an experienced Trencher Shift Supervisor to oversee cable burial operations onboard an offshore vessel. You will lead operators and technicians, ensure safe trenching execution, and coordinate activities according to project requirements and operational procedures.
Function description
As a Trenching Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising and directing your shift team, including Cable Burial Tool (CBT) Operators, Riggers, and assisting Engineers, during offshore trenching and cable burial activities.
You will ensure operations are performed safely and efficiently in line with project procedures, legislation, and internal operational standards. This includes active participation in toolbox talks, JSAs, safety briefings, and HIRA processes throughout the shift.
The role requires close collaboration with the onboard management team, Technical Specialists, Field Engineers, Survey, and other operational departments to ensure all tasks follow the project scope and technical requirements.

Function description

Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supervising all cable burial operations during your shift.
- Ensuring all tasks follow agreed work plans, operational procedures, and safety measures.
- Coordinating with technical teams regarding equipment status and operational planning.
- Supporting maintenance activities for trenching equipment on- and offshore, including spares and consumables.
- Handling operational deviations and instructing the team on corrective actions.
- Ensuring certified lifting and rigging equipment is used at all times.
- Contributing to mobilisation, demobilisation, and operational preparations.
- Maintaining strong communication with onboard management regarding safety and operational progress.
- Promoting a positive and cooperative working environment on board
Requirements
Mandatory Certificates:
- Full GWO Basic Safety Training (BST)
- OPITO‑approved BOSIET (with EBS) / HUET
- Valid Seaman Book
- Valid Offshore Medical Certificate
- STCW Basic Training (PST, FPFF, EFA, PSSR)
Experience & Technical Background:
- Previous experience in trenching or cable burial operations offshore.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and electrical/electronic systems (MBO4/HBO level or equivalent practical experience).
- Ability to lead and supervise a team during offshore operations.
- Familiarity with JSAs, toolbox talks, HIRA and safe working practices.
