Job Objective

A hands-on HSE leader and doer focused on driving Safety Culture, delivering HSE initiatives, ensuring compliance and fostering engagement across the Contract. Ensure clarity and alignment between WOOD, Joint Venture partners where applicable, and Clients through visible leadership, site presence and practical field support. Experience in Operation and Maintenance O&M contracts

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Embraces Contract HSE requirements, Wood strategic purpose, goals, and objectives and translates these into practical concepts relevant to HSE management
  • Hands-on Delivery and Site engagement
    • Acts as a visible and capable HSE practitioner who not only leads but actively delivers and participates in HSE activities, ensuring presence and engagement at the frontline
    • Conduct frequent site visits to build trust, observe behaviors, coach workers and reinforce HSE expectations
    • Supports operations and project/Contract teams directly in implementing procedures, risk controls and safety initiatives
  • HSE Management System and Assurance
    • Ensure effective implementation and maintenance for the HSE Management system
    • Develop and review Project/Contract HSE Start up procedures
    • Leads the development, rollout, and continual improvement of procedures ensuring they reflect both legal and Wood corporate requirements
    • Ensure KPIs for the contract are aligned with corporate focus areas and based on HSE Prorisk
    • Monthly HSE performance review, identify trends and drive continuous improvement
    • Develop and maintain a robust HSE assurance Plan that includes regular audits, inspections, management reviews and follow-up actions
    • Maintain and regularly update ProRisk and risk registers to reflect operational realities and emerging risks across all worksites
    • Leads or supports incident investigations to ensure proper rootcause analysis, timely corrective actions , and effective sharing of lessons learned
  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure understanding and mapping of local legal requirements against Contract requirements, WOOD procedures, maintain compliance across all jurisdictions
    • Engage with local authorities and external auditors as required to ensure compliance
  • Interface and Collaboration
    • Ensure clear HSE interface document and alignment between WOOD, Joint Ventures and client organisations
    • Promote collaborative relationships to avoid gaps or overlaps in responsibilities and communication between various stakeholders
  • Training competence and Development
    • Identifies training needs based on Contract requirements, Legal and other requirements and Wood procedure and where required coordinates HSE related training for site and office personnel
    • Ensure HSE competency frameworks are implemented and maintained across locations
    • Promotes continuous learning and knowledge sharing through incident reviews, lessons learned and safety campaigns
    • Safety Culture and Behavioural improvement
    • Conduct and facilitates Safety Culture Ladder (SCL) assessments across the contract locations, develop and drive related improvement plans
  • Provides constructive feedback & coaching
  • Staffing and development of HSE talent for the Contract
  • Performance reviews and salary administration
  • Conducting periodic meetings with Contract staff, to provide top-down information flow about the company
  • Identifies and reports contracts risks and emerging risks, leading proactive actions to mitigate them
  • Receives intermittent supervision
  • Support Business Development and Proposals department where required
  • Ensure HSE Management Systems are monitored and in compliance
  • Promote HSE best practices in the office and on the worksite
  • Support HSE presentation needs to clients (internal and external)

  • Internal: Senior Managers, Directors and Leaders, Procurement, Operations, Engineering/Technology Teams, Commercial Business Units, HR, Global Peers, Frontline Supervisors, Corporate & Regional HSE team
  • External: Clients, Joint Venture, Suppliers, Third party providers, External auditors, Regulatory authorities

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:
  • Formal qualification in occupational health and safety management
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • ISO Lead Auditor
  • Lead Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis
  • A formal process safety related qualification would be an advantage


Knowledge, skills and experience:
  • 20 years of experience in offshore or oil and gas environment
  • Operation and Maintenance (O&M) experience is a MUST
  • Proven experience in managing multicultural teams in an international setting.
  • Proficiency in English, also additional Arabic language skill being advantageous
  • Knowledge of HSE standards and legal requirements
  • Experience of working in and managing a Quality and HSE Management system environment
  • Supervisory or direct management experience of more junior staff members is required.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Confident self-starter who can work independently
  • Knowledge of internal and external audits and third-party certification audits practices
