Job Description:

What's the role

The Applications Specialist plays a critical role in supporting and providing day-to-day technical assurance to our laboratory test methods and instrumentation and is a critical barrier in data integrity.

The Application Specialist is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day operability of the instrumentation/equipment and data needs of the lab. While the Application Specialist does not run daily samples, they will be skilled in the test methods to support routine sample schedules, special samples, or during upset conditions. The Application Specialist is responsible for conducting calibrations and validations to remain in compliance.

This role requires deep expertise in chemical analytical techniques and data quality management systems. The successful candidate will integrate skills across analytical chemistry and statistics to optimize & develop test methods.

What you'll be doing

  • Provides data integrity & reliability by following and monitoring our Statistical Quality Control (SQC) program within the QM department
  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting for multiple laboratory equipment to ensure data integrity
  • Leads installation, validation, and calibration of new and existing laboratory equipment
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Statistical Quality Control (SQC) program
  • Performs base runs on instruments to build SQC charts to monitor instrument performance
  • Places methods into service, including developing training packages/procedures and assisting the Team Lead in training Testers
  • Provides support for experimental testing
  • Responsible for instrument troubleshooting, with repair plans dependent on Production criticality
  • Keeps and maintains good records of instrument issues and actions taken to repair laboratory equipment
  • Prepares lab standards as needed for instrument calibrations and validations
  • Responsible for setting up proper process warning mechanisms through exception reports in LIMS
  • Leads investigations into failed SQCs and identifying an assignable cause for OOC instruments
  • Maintains frequent communication with key stakeholders to keep them informed of critical information regarding instrument repairs, calibrations, and other changes
  • Responsible for keeping and maintaining chemical inventory of reagents, standards, and critical parts to ensure reliability


Lab and Site Dimensions

  • The Quality Measurements department supports all Chemical operations at the Deer Park Site
  • Actively contributes to strategic site initiatives such as new method development, cost leadership, and optimization of existing test methods
  • Key stakeholder in Statistical Quality Control (SQC) Program


What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Quality Assurance laboratory is strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in chemistry is required
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting, fixing, and repairing analytical instrumentations (GC's, HPLC, IC, titrators, UV, others) Proficiency in analytical techniques including GC, GC-MS, HPLC, IC, sulfur speciation, XRF, and titrations
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing demands
  • This role is pivotal to achieving Goal Zero and maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and reliability
  • This role is a day job, however 24 hours on call support


What we offer

The base salary range for this position is $101,000.00 - $151,000.00 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
