The Drilling Superintendent is responsible for providing operation and management support to the Country/Operations Manager and to the Rig Superintendent. The Drilling Superintendent manages the company interests in the field in respect to the customers, the well program and all personnel onboard the rig. This person coaches the Rig Manager in managing the rig as a safe, efficient and profitable independent unit while delivering value drilling services to customers.

- Responsible for ensuring that policies, standards and procedures are implemented and understood for the operations under his care.
- Promotes and coaches the practical implementation of QHSE MS system for the operations under care.
- Ensure the rig has established and functioning system of assessments (CAT's) inspections and drills, with proper follow-up using QUEST.
- Participate in HSE CMS, HiPo Light and Near Accident event investigations and follow-up.
- Coaches the Rig Manager into establishing an efficient business unit.
- Advises the Rig Manager on the rig during critical operations.
- Ensure that equipment management and the Preventive Management Systems (PMS) programs are efficiently and effectively carried out.
- Ensures that technical studies initiated by the Engineering Departments are followed up and developed.
- Ensures that the Operations make efficient use of Technical Support Resources.
- Supports the creation and organization of rig specific Technical and Operational Procedures, and Standard Work Instructions and get them implemented.
- Maintains relationship with the customer's representative on the rig in coordination with the Rig Superintendent and/or the Country/Operation Manager.
- * Ensures that the rigs under his care operate in accordance to contractual obligations and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
- Support implementation of new technologies and processes in rig operations.
- Support the preparation of the Operations budget and utilization forecast and recommend when Operating costs can be streamlined.
- Coaches the Rig Manager in the proper planning of the coming operations and ensuring that all materials and equipment are ready and compliant for key operations.
- Ensures that minimum operational practices and standards are understood and followed.
- Supports and advises Rig Manager and Rig superintendent in planning maintenance jobs to be carried out.
- Monitors rigs and equipment inspection schedule as per Standards and Procedures.
- Acts as front line training coach for the rig personnel.
- Ensures that the Field Engineer Trainee program (FET program) and Field Technician Trainee program (FTT program) modular and certification programs are implemented.
- Appraises the training needs of the field personnel and make recommendations to the Training department to allow the necessary training to be provided and improved.
- Supports and implements the Competency System for senior positions and identifies areas of strength and development.
- Provides continuous training development and coaching to Drillers, Supervisors and Rig Manager through competency assessments in line with the Competency System.
