JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood has an opportunity for a Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join our team in Qatar on a staff basis. This is a key role within the Wood Doha office delivering across study, FEED, EPC and PMC scopes of work.

Responsibilities
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of Technical Safety & Loss Prevention engineering methodologies, software systems, and design practices as they relate to FEED, Detail Design, Construction, Commissioning, and plant Start-up.
  • Perform Safety screening of project scopes.
  • Able to analyse existing safety systems to establish adequacy and identify gaps
  • Hands on experience of conducting Hazardous Area Classification, Safety layout Assessment, Emergency escape route assessment.
  • Experience in Fire engineering activities like Fire Zone determination, Firewater demand calculations and Firewater network hydraulics.
  • Preparation of third-party scope of work, bid evaluation, and post-award coordination to ensure smooth progress of safety and environmental workshops.
  • Participating and preparing reports for project HAZOP, HAZID, SIL studies, and other safety workshops when required.
  • Able to perform Physical Hazard Effects (PHE) modelling and able to review Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA).
  • Experience in conducting F&G mapping.
  • Co-ordinating with other disciplines during all stages of design development, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up.
  • Providing technical support to site as required.
  • Producing and reviewing specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations; ensuring that they conform to engineering quality, competence, and project management systems.
  • Presenting a client facing leadership role, build confidence and maintain communication with client through formal and informal meetings.
  • Being focused on delivery and maintaining progress in line with project schedules.
  • Leading and mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Demonstrate full ownership of technical safety related scope.
  • Ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives, and industry technology developments.
  • Thorough awareness of international codes and standards. Proficiency with Shell DEP is highly desirable.
  • Actively maintains own competence according to standards and pursues continuous professional development.

  • Degree qualification in Chemical Engineering, and preferably a member of a relevant professional body or institution.
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in Oil & Gas post-graduation
  • Experience of working in a variety of projects and phases, including greenfield and brownfield, on and offshore, Concept through to EPC, with a focus on upstream.
  • A self-motivated, proactive individual with high achievement drive and initiative, excellent verbal and written communication skills and good organisational awareness
  • Ability to impact and influence fellow workers
  • Demonstration of customer focus and ability to respond to customer needs whilst achieving project and corporate objectives
  • Display analytical and innovation skills to manage new technology
  • Experience of leading/chairing HAZID/HAZOP reviews for small projects will be an advantage
