Job Purpose

The Construction Lead (Topsides) is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and executing all topsides construction activities on an onshore/nearshore oil & gas facility in Iraq. This role ensures that all construction works are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications, engineering designs, and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all topsides construction and installation activities, including structural, mechanical, piping, E&I works.
• Ensure all contractors follow approved Construction Method Statements, ITPs, and project-specific quality requirements.
• Review and validate construction schedules (Level 3 & 4) and ensure alignment with site progress and priorities.
• Coordinate daily/weekly planning with EPC contractor, subcontractors, and internal departments.
• Provide strong Safety Leadership and enforce site HSE rules in line with Iraqi regulations and company standards.
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety walkdowns, and ensure PTW requirements are fully adhered to.
• Drive a zero‑incident culture and ensure risk assessments (JSA/TRA) are completed for all critical activities.
• Monitor actual progress vs. planned progress; highlight deviations and support mitigation plans.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly construction status reports for management.
• Lead interface management with engineering, procurement, logistics, and QA/QC teams.
• Interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and construction deliverables.
• Review and approve technical queries (TQs), field change requests (FCRs), and site technical issues.
• Ensure alignment of construction works with international standards (API, ASME, AWS, IEC, etc.).
• Oversee welding, NDT, hydrotesting, mechanical completion, and pre‑commissioning readiness.
• Ensure punch list items are resolved and walkdowns are conducted with QA/QC & commissioning teams.
• Daily coordination with EPC contractors, subcontractors, and client representatives.
• Ensure resource planning—manpower, equipment, tools—is adequate to meet construction targets.

QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• Diploma holders with extensive topsides experience may also apply.

Professional Experience

• 10-15+ years of construction experience in oil & gas.
• Minimum 5+ years leading topsides construction in major projects (onshore or offshore).
• Experience working in Iraq, Middle East, or remote site locations is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of brownfield tie-ins, shutdown works, and SIMOPS.

Technical Skills

• Deep knowledge of topsides structures, piping, mechanical equipment installation, and E&I interfaces.
• Familiarity with construction software: Primavera P6, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and standard MS Office tools.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering documents.
