Job Description:

Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) is BP's face to the traded markets for oil, gas, power, refinery and chemical feedstock and currencies. ST&S supports other BP businesses by providing a competitive supply, trading and shipping function that covers Oil, Chemicals, Power, and Gas as well as a suite of risk management tools. Our trading business delivers gross margin through our entrepreneurial trading activities and the optimization of blending and shipping operations.

Within ST&S, BP Shipping is the oldest continuously operating part of BP and has been supporting global marine activities since 1915!

Our fleet of operated vessels, combined with vessels from our charter partners, represents one of the world's most comprehensive marine networks for energy. At any one time, about 300 ships are on the water for bp, enabling us to move around 240 million tonnes of oil, gas, and products in any given year.

BP Maritime Services (BPMS) employs officers to sail on BP Shipping fleet of ships, which are the hardware that transports the company's oil and gas around the world, and, with it, BP's reputation. They open exciting new opportunities for the business and often pioneer innovations which are taken up by the industry as examples of standard process! BPMS facilitates the provision of services to our officers in our fleet, including:

  • Performance management support
  • General human resource (including capability development)
  • Payroll administration
  • Recruitment
  • Capacity planning and scheduling

We are seeking an applicant to fill the position of Senior Analyst - Shipping Accounting, Reporting & Control (ARC), based in Singapore. The successful candidate will be part of the Shipping & BPMS Finance Team and will report to the Finance Manager, Operated Fleet and Singapore Management Information.

This role is responsible for providing financial partnering to the business, namely BPMS, BP Shipping Singapore and UK, and Finance, Business & Technology (FBT) for Crewing and Shipping across our global fleet, to optimise Crewing payroll and financial operations and Shipping regional reporting, tax and financial positions.

Kep Accountabilities

The successful candidate's primary focus will be handling Crewing's main cost component of payroll, to plan the operational and financial solutions for the BPMS sea-staff payroll function and financial performance analyses for integration with Shipping's changing business/crewing needs. The role will also handle BPMS and BP Shipping's financial reporting requirements, including system/process redesigns liaising with internal and external business partners, as well as all areas of financial analyses to ensure accurate and timely reporting for Shipping in the region where applicable and will be responsible for the following:

  • Partners the business to understand the changing needs of the Shipping business and build and propose new processes/systems to cater to the BPMS operating model for cost collection and financial analyses, for the support and monitoring of strategic management decisions.
  • Builds, co-ordinates and communicates operational reports, monthly performance reports aligned to management needs employing up-to-date technology and tools. Handles audience group and feedback channel for continuous improvements and value addition to management decision making.
  • Develop accurate analytical, reporting and supporting accounting and payroll structure required for new processes/system and plan and implement for the adoption by Finance Team/FBT.
  • Undertakes planning of the internal control processes for BPMS, including developing, refining and overseeing the Finance Team's systems and processes for Business Continuity Plan (BCP), Desk Top Procedures (DTPs), job swap and other control and business continuity arrangements.
  • Evolves the payroll function in its systems and processes to provide the operational and financial solution to the Crewing function in line with business changes. Work with the BPMS functional teams - Crewing Leads, Planning and Logistics and HR teams to plan the long-term payroll infrastructure required to support the Shipping business.
  • Develops control processes and performs timely payroll review to ensure the accurate payment and reporting of all payroll information and related employee benefits, in compliance with the provision of accounting standards, tax laws, regulations, and BP policy.
  • Plans and develop payroll workflow; approves all master payroll calendars and monthly processing schedule.
  • Develop financial analyses and reports as required by the business, including for fleet build, salary increment and foreign exchange.
  • Handle the Approved International Shipping (AIS) Enterprise Tax Incentive for Shipping Finance Singapore, coordinate closely with Chartering and other business teams, FBT, Tax teams and Maritime Port Authority of Singapore.
  • Coordinate BPMS and other audit requirements on Shipping finance information as required by Shipping Singapore eg supplier finance audit.
  • Build and maintain key relationships with outsourced partners for financial and accounting information purposes and provide cost analysis and challenges as vital, including bank(s), payroll system vendor(s) in relation to payroll matters. Build and maintain key relationships with FBT and BP Shipping Finance for financial and accounting information purposes and functions within BPMS Singapore and Shipping in the region for operational information requirements.
  • Provide support and cover for other finance team roles as vital. Additional ad-hoc reports and projects on demand.

Essential Experience and Job Qualifications:

  • Meaningful operational finance experience with a consistent track record of delivering commercial value.
  • Previous experience in financial accounting or financial planning is necessary
  • Strong Interpersonal skills with ability to influence in a collaborative manner and able to build and maintain successful relationships. Strong communication and knowledge sharing skills
  • Strong teammate, proactive and assertive. Strong analytical skills and commercial awareness
  • Ability to successfully handle conflict and multiple priorities.

Desirable criteria and qualifications

  • Experience in Marine/Shipping industry is preferred
  • SAP accounting system experience is preferred. Experience in Shipping Payroll is desirable but not essential. SmartPal Shipmanagement System experience is desirable but not essential
  • A university degree or equivalent experience or diploma holder preferred, but specific educational profile is less important than behaviours and a strong background of high performance and contribution.
