JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Role

As a Service & Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and high-quality operation of offshore equipment worldwide. You will be responsible for commissioning, servicing, troubleshooting, and inspecting complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems, both offshore and on international project sites.

This role sits within the Aftermarket / Services team and works closely with Service Coordinators, Project Managers, and customers. You will represent NOV and GustoMSC on-site, contributing directly to customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and the long-term performance of installed offshore equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform commissioning, inspections, installation, upgrades, repairs, and troubleshooting of offshore equipment, including cranes, jacking systems, skidding systems, and fixation systems.
  • Execute service activities across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, PLC, and software disciplines while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Supervise and support maintenance activities on imposed equipment during offshore and on-site operations.
  • Prepare work method statements, pre-job meetings, and toolbox talks prior to execution.
  • Provide technical support to customers during operations such as rig moves and jacking trials.
  • Report daily site activities and prepare accurate, structured service and commissioning reports in a timely manner.
  • Actively promote a strong safety and quality culture, identifying and reporting unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide technical customer support from the office when not offshore.
  • Participate in 24-hour call-out duties when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned, and preventive actions within the department.
  • Support training and mentoring of less experienced engineers when applicable.


Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • MBO level 3/4 or HBO in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar technical discipline - ensures solid technical foundation.
  • Approximately 5 years of relevant experience in heavy industry or offshore equipment maintenance - demonstrates hands-on capability in similar environments.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and/or electrical systems - required for commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
  • Willingness to work internationally and offshore (minimum ~50%), including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken - essential for reporting and customer interaction.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams under offshore conditions.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC systems (Step 7 / TIA Portal preferred) - beneficial for diagnostics and commissioning.
  • Experience with GustoMSC or similar offshore systems, such as cranes, jacking, and skidding systems.
  • Valid offshore safety certifications in line with international regulations.
  • Strong customer-facing skills and structured reporting capabilities.
