About the Role

As the Occupational Health & Safety Lead for the Pelican Point Battery Energy Storage System (PP‑BESS), you'll be the on‑site HSE lead throughout establishment, construction, commissioning, and handover. You'll oversee daily contractor activities, ensure compliance with ENGIE's HSE standards and regulatory requirements, and drive a strong, proactive safety culture across the project. This is a 2‑year fixed‑term role supporting the safe and compliant delivery of one of South Australia's landmark renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and oversee ENGIE's HSE systems on-site, ensuring all contractor activities comply with project HSE plans, legislation, and safe work practices.
  • Lead daily safety engagement, including toolbox talks, risk assessments (SWMS/LMRs), SIMOPS coordination, and promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Monitor, assess, and report on HSE performance, including incident investigations, weekly/monthly reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Review contractor HSE documentation and performance, supporting procurement evaluations, supplier qualification, and CAPEX/OPEX HSE inputs.
  • Act as the on-site liaison for regulatory inspections and audits, ensuring compliance with all approval conditions, licences, and legislative requirements.
  • Champion ENGIE's One Safety Program, maintaining strong safety standards across PP‑BESS and supporting other project sites where required.

About You

You're a safety professional who brings both technical capability and a practical, hands‑on approach to supporting construction and renewable energy activities - confident engaging with contractors, influencing safe behaviours, and navigating regulatory requirements in a dynamic project environment.
  • Diploma or Cert IV in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)
  • ICAM or TapRoot investigation training
  • Valid Construction White Card, or willingness to obtain before commencing
  • Strong understanding of South Australian and national OHS&E legislation
  • Experience in electrical installations and/or renewable energy projects
  • Effective leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability, with the capacity to remain calm under pressure
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a site‑based team
