Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key deliverables:
• To operate as a key member of the One Digital and Data team which oversees the effective delivery of all digital clinical services within the directorate and the delivery of all the directorate's objectives and responsibilities
• Provide clinical safety approval for new agreed deployments of digital solutions and upgrades to existing systems across the Group
• To work with relevant internal and external stakeholders to take responsibility and accountability for digital clinical safety across the Group
• Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical staff in planning and implementing clinical safety standards and policies aligned to the Group Digital Strategy
• Managing and supporting the resolution of digital systems clinical risk or other related issues as they arise and where required to lead or contribute to the investigation of incidents including liaison with relevant national teams• Undertaking regular planning in partnership with other members of the local health and social care community to ensure a consistent approach to matters of digital clinical safety
• Contributing to discussions with third party suppliers and external resources regarding any issues identified with software or hardware which has an impact on clinical safety
• To actively lead on the clinical safety authorisation of the procurement of new software and hardware
• To be responsible for the sign off of the clinical safety case for all newly deployed applications or those referred through the relevant Group Digital Boards/Programme meetings and any other relevant meetings
• Participation in appropriate Group, local, regional and national meetings related to clinical safety as required Strategic Planning
• To actively participate in the strategic digital portfolio planning for the Group, ensuring that there is a clear relationship between the Group Clinical Strategy and Group Digital Strategy and the individual projects undertaken
• Within this process to take lead responsibility for the Digital Portfolio Clinical Safety components of the strategy and the related programmes of which underpin that Policy Development
• Undertake development of Group policy in relation to Digital Clinical Safety and ensuring successful implementation and a process for on-going review
• Working with other leads to ensure alignment of relevant Group policies to the Digital Clinical Safety policy
• To work with others on the development of relevant governance policies and procedures on behalf of the Group
• Ability to interpret specialist national guidance and formulate into local policies where applicable

Person specification

Education, Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered healthcare professional with current UK registration
  • Experienced CSO with accredited qualification
  • Masters in Leadership, Change, Service Transformation or other relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Delivery of large projects or similar
  • Experienced CSO with accredited qualification
  • Evidence of recent and ongoing CPD/learning in relevant area

Desirable criteria
  • Project management qualification, such as PRINCE II or Agile
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Health Leadership (NHS Digital Leadership Academy)
  • Associate/Member/Fellow of British Computer Society
  • Advanced practice, other post registration qualification
  • Information Governance qualification
  • Recognised national leadership programme completion with portfolio of evidence to support achievements
  • Associate/Member/Fellow of British Computer Society

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Experienced CSO with portfolio of evidence to demonstrate past practice and achievements
  • Experienced clinician with evidence of working effectively across a range of clinical settings within a MDT
  • Sound knowledge of a risk management process with ability to engage clinicians in the process and role of CSO and effective risk management

Experience and Knowledge and Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Working knowledge of all relevant UK legislation relating to Clinical Safety
  • Experience of managing senior stakeholders
  • Positive team focus and effective leadership style which is adaptable dependent upon required situation

  • Experienced clinician with evidence of working effectively across a range of clinical settings within a MD
  • Excellent communication skills with a range of people from a variety of disciplines regarding a range of business or technical matters
  • Technically able with sound knowledge of IM&T infrastructures, national priorities, policy and workstreams
  • Sound knowledge of a risk management process with ability to engage clinicians in the process and role of CSO and effective risk management

Desirable criteria
  • Associate/Member/Fellow of British Computer Society
