Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cloud Data Architect & Data Security leader to join our team. This role blends strategic oversight of enterprise data architecture with hands-on execution of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks. The ideal candidate will design scalable and resilient data ecosystems, establish and operationalize governance policies, and ensure strong data security across cloud, SaaS, and on-premises platforms for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
As a key contributor to our data modernization initiatives, this role will drive the alignment of data capabilities with business objectives and data governance strategies. Reporting to the Director of Data Architecture, the Senior Cloud Data Architect & Data Governance lead will be responsible for architecting and implementing governance and security solutions that support the company's broader digital transformation goals.
The primary accountability of this role is to define, implement, and enforce policies, processes, and standards that ensure the effective management, quality, protection, and usability of enterprise data. This position collaborates closely with Enterprise Governance, Information Management, Security Architecture, Data Architecture, and other cross-functional teams to build robust, scalable, and sustainable governance and security frameworks. This role also requires a strong and current technology focus, deep hands-on experience in data and solution architecture, and proven expertise in integrating and deploying modern digital and cloud technologies

Position Overview
Your responsibilities may include:
Data Architecture & Integration
- Lead the design and development of enterprise data architecture, integrating Cloud Data Lake capabilities with existing Data Warehouse systems
- Create and maintain reference architectures, data models, and design patterns for structured and unstructured data
- Evaluate and implement new data management technologies to support analytics, AI, and business intelligence
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data architecture with IT and business strategies
Data Governance
- Develop and enforce data governance frameworks, standards, and policies
- Establish governance committees and coordinate with business units to promote data stewardship
- Maintain enterprise data catalogs and metadata management systems
- Define and monitor data quality KPIs and oversee remediation efforts
- Experience with implementing data governance (data catalogs, business workflows, establishing stewardship processes, etc.) with technologies/tools like Alex, Collibra, etc.
- Design and implement actions that should protect the integrity, confidentiality and availability of the organization's data
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Security
- Develop and enforce Data Loss Prevention policies for sensitive data across both structured and unstructured datasets
- Identify and classify confidential information throughout the organization
- Configure and manage DLP tools to monitor data flows, generate alerts, and support detailed reporting
- Promptly investigate and respond to DLP incidents, including breach determination, containment, and stakeholder notification
- Work in close coordination with the Cybersecurity team to align DLP and data security controls with broader enterprise security policies, incident response protocols, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Review and enhance existing data monitoring & usage capabilities and identify opportunities to strengthen the overall Security standards
- Identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvements
- Implement AI native security across Azure, SaaS and AI environments using tools like Cyera
Data Security Posture Management (DSPM)
- Implement and oversee data security posture management practices across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Enforce access controls, encryption protocols, audit trails, and other data protection mechanisms.
- Collaborate in tandem with the Cybersecurity team to integrate DSPM strategies with enterprise-wide security frameworks.
- Stay current with emerging DSPM tools and cloud security best practices, including Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) solutions, and other advanced technologies
Strategy & Leadership
- Contribute to the development of the overall data strategy and roadmap
- Mentor and guide other data architects and analysts
- Foster a culture that values data integrity, security, and utilization
- Communicate complex data concepts to business and technical stakeholders
- Responsible for cultivating relationships with peer Data Management groups, Enterprise Architects, Data Architects, Security Architects and Enterprise Governance teams to ensure alignment, compliance and long-term sustainability of our digital assets
- Actively participate in and support the team's Agile quarterly planning processes
- Consulting and/or participation in risk review process and Architecture Review board to ensure the security, DLP, DPSM tools/capabilities align with the organization's standards
- Responsible for creating enterprise blueprints that tie together our business processes and workflows to strengthen our overall Data Governance, DLP & Security standards and DPSM strategies while promoting innovation across the Data & AI landscape
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Incorporate the latest AI capabilities to seamlessly complement above-mentioned categories/responsibilities to drive business results and innovation to propel organization's Data and Digital strategies
- Stay current with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in the AI stack - management, governance, and architecture
Basic/required:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Geoscience, Information Technology, Information Systems, related field or foreign equivalent
- 7 or more years of hands-on experience in data architecture, data management and data governance
- 5 or more years of hands-on experience with Cloud data platforms (Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.)
- 3 or more years of experience in data security and IT risk management
- 3 or more years of experience implementing DLP solutions and data classification frameworks
- 1 or more years of experience security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GIAC, CCSP, CISA)
- Expert level of knowledge SQL skills and experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT, and data warehousing
- Intermediate level of knowledge with cloud security principles and tools (e.g., CSPM, CASB, encryption, audit logging)
- Beginner level of knowledge or experience with leveraging AI capabilities for data governance, security and data security posture management
Preferred:
- 5 or more years of Energy industry experience or equivalent large-scale industrial data environments
- Experience and proficiency with big data technologies like Spark, Kafka, NoSQL, etc.
- Experience with Spark and any of the following programming languages: Python, Scala, Java, etc.
- Work across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, with strong technical experience in large distributed systems, data warehousing and data lakes at scale
- Deep subject matter expertise and hands on experience in designing, scaling and implementing data lake platforms
- DevOps proficiency, including Agile development process, containers, and source code control systems
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven ability to drive data strategies and governance adoption across organizations
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Java, Scala, etc.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Data Management principles, processes and data lifecycle management
- Understanding of Data Science and related technologies
- Demonstrated leadership and soft skills, with ability to engage at all levels of the organization
- Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
- Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
- Good Knowledge of well data lifecycles from exploration through to development, drilling and completion, production and eventual abandonment or relinquishment
- Ability to lead initiatives, multi-disciplinary project teams, and influence stakeholder buy-in
- Participate in strategy and planning sessions and be recognized as a valued team member who consistently delivers meaningful contributions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to all the stakeholders
