The Solutions team is part of the FB&T Enabling Solutions organisation, which is responsible for applying deep expertise to own, design, govern, and continuously improve the global products that are critical to bp's success. As an organisation, we are committed to delivering high‑quality, scalable solutions while ensuring the best possible user experience for our customers.
Within this organisation, the Solution Specialist (JVA/FICO) plays a key role by applying business and accounting knowledge to design solutions across processes such as Joint Venture Accounting (JVA), Production Sharing Accounting (PSA), and Production & Revenue Accounting (PRA). The role also requires close collaboration with other organisational workstreams, including Controlling, Finance, Banking and Reporting, ensuring seamless integration across end‑to‑end processes.
In this position, you will help the organisation develop and deploy end‑to‑end solutions that not only meet current business needs but also anticipate and support future requirements.
You will further contribute to the organisation's transformation by shaping new solution designs using S/4HANA Finance as part of bp's ERP Transformation Project.
Job Purpose
The Solution Specialist collaborates with the Solution Manager and serves as a domain authority in designing and delivering solutions across bp's global SAP landscape, governing Global Finance Template (GFT).
As part of the Enabling Solutions organisation, the Solution Specialist brings deep process and technical expertise across Record to Report, Source to Pay, or Order to Cash. Operating within an Agile, multi-functional team, you will partner closely with collaborators to deliver high‑quality, scalable, and sustainable solutions for the organisation.
Using strong business and accounting knowledge, the Solution Specialist develops a thorough understanding of business needs and value drivers. Demonstrating technical competence foresight and subject‑matter expertise, you will propose solution option at the best support bp's operational and strategic objectives.

Key Accountabilities
Agile practices:
- Break down product backlog items into clear functional requirements and provide guidance on user story implementation.
- Embrace and apply Agile principles and ways of working.
- Engage with collaborators to understand, analyse, and assess business requirements.
- Participate actively in product synchronisation boards.
Product Solution Design Ownership
- Lead end‑to‑end solution design across relevant functional areas, ensuring alignment with business needs, conceptual models, and global process standards.
- Investigate, evaluate, prototype, and recommend solution options, presenting proposals to business collaborators and relevant governance forums.
- Create, maintain, and govern high‑quality solution design documentation, ensuring consistency to global process governance, corporate controls, regulatory requirements, and FB&T design standards.
- Break down complex business processes into clear, simplified requirements and prepare (or contribute to) detailed functional specifications for solution design.
- Review technical designs to ensure they align with conceptual and process designs and follow integration, data, and architectural standards.
- Provide domain expertise to develop and maintain process maps, standard operating procedures, training materials, and solution documentation within the document management system.
- Support template governance by managing design changes through appropriate authorities and proposing global standard solutions where applicable.
- Define unit testing requirements, develop testing scenarios, and review and sign off on execution outcomes to ensure solution robustness.
- Identify improvement opportunities, contribute enhancements to the product backlog, and support process review sessions to drive standardisation and optimisation.
- Provide consultancy and guidance for business change initiatives and support key activities such as template familiarisation, fit‑gap analysis, design workshops, user training, and internal knowledge‑sharing sessions.
- Offer SME input to Communities of Practice and assist major incident resolution, conducting root‑cause analysis and advising on integration considerations for external interfaces.
- Analyse and articulate problems clearly, resolve solution incidents, and ensure multi-functional inputs are incorporated where required.
Business & Partnership
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and experimentation to drive value creation and scalable solutions across bp.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with I&E, GPO, technical teams, business stakeholders, A&C and Future Finance functions.
- Share best practices to ensure all business, statutory, and fiscal requirements are met.
Knowledge Sharing/Management
- Organise and lead ongoing knowledge‑sharing sessions within the solutions team to build capability and maintain alignment.
- Participate in design authorities, network meetings, peer reviews, and mentoring cohorts to promote continuous learning and cross‑team collaboration.
- Apply designated knowledge‑management processes and tools to ensure information is captured, structured, and accessible.
- Leverage successful products, best practices, and lessons learned from within bp and external industry sources to enhance solution quality and innovation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by finding opportunities, sharing insights, and supporting standardisation efforts.
- Support template fit‑gap workshops, user training sessions, and other learning activities by preparing and delivering relevant knowledge materials.
- Identify when multi-functional involvement is needed, ensuring appropriate coordination and alignment across teams.
- Serve as Solution Integration Lead for specific projects when required, guiding project teams and ensuring effective interaction with the broader solutions organisation.
Key Challenges
- A diverse landscape in bp SAP instances will require a detailed focus person for this role.
- Cross-regions will require speedy and timely support to deliver to the business during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end across bp worldwide.
- Collaborator management is crucial, as bp is under-going ERP transformation journey using S/4 HANA, which Enabling Solutions play an important gate-keeping role to ensure new releases does not impact existing process through out the programme, and at the same time sharing a point of view to Quantum in shaping the future for bp's S/4 HANA global design.
Qualification & Experience and Competencies
Essential Education & Experience
- A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- A recognised accountancy qualification (e.g., CIMA, CPA, ACA, ACCA) or actively working toward one.
- SAP certification in ECC and/or S/4HANA.
- Significant hands‑on experience with SAP, including strong working knowledge of end‑to‑end transactional processes within an SAP environment.
- Experience in capturing business requirements and contributing to process and system improvements.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex processes clearly and influence a wide range of interested parties.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively handle conflict and navigate challenging situations.
- A strong passion for problem‑solving, with the ability to analyse issues, propose solutions, and support others in resolving complex problems.
- Proven teamwork and collaboration skills within global, virtual, and multi-functional environments.
- A continuous‑learning attitude, with enthusiasm for acquiring new knowledge and sharing expertise with others.
- General understanding of systems deployment activities and how they interact with business processes.

Essential Product Experience & Expertise
- Deep knowledge and significant experience with SAP FICO functionality and configuration and a solid understanding of user transactional processes in an SAP environment.
- domain expert on Joint Venture Accounting processes and SAP JVA functionality
- Significant experience of system design and system deployment in the Joint Venture Accounting area
Desirable Criteria
- 5+ years of relevant work experience with systems and process design.
- Experience working in a multinational organization, preferably in the Oil and Gas or Mining sector.
- Experience of Agile ways of working.
- Deep knowledge of Group reporting and financial consolidation in a multi-national organisation.
- 2+ years of experience in system design or SAP support, ideally ECC and/or S/4 HANA.
