This Position reports to:
Superviseur, Groupe Optomécanique

You will take part in various mechanical design and analysis tasks within the Measurement and Analytics business unit in Québec City (Canada). Assigned to the opto‑mechanical group and supervised by the team's designers and engineers, you will be responsible for designing optical instruments in close collaboration with other teams (systems, electronics, testing, and integration) using the CREO software, as well as performing analyses using the ANSYS software.

The mechanical engineering intern is involved in design, prototyping, as well as integration and testing for optical measurement instruments used in multiple industrial sectors as well as in aerospace and defense.

Your Responsibilities
  • Perform strength of materials calculations and other analyses to support engineers with their verifications.
  • Perform structural and thermal numerical simulations using ANSYS.
  • Participate in design activities and produce 2D drawings for various projects.
  • Update 3D models of different products in CREO (Pro‑E).
  • Prepare calculation spreadsheets to help standardize analysis methods.
  • Conduct research on different manufacturing methods, heat treatments, materials, and surface treatments to help engineers make informed decisions.
  • Document this research and analysis work and present it to engineers during technical presentations.

Your Profile

The desired mechanical engineering intern demonstrates a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and places high value on teamwork. They are autonomous, responsible, studious, analytical, and dedicated to delivering assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of 2 years of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Coursework in materials and strength of materials
  • Knowledge of thermal sciences
  • Knowledge of sinusoidal and random vibration
  • Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Proficiency in French and English. French is required. English is also required for regular communication with customers outside Québec.

Assets
  • Knowledge of mechanical drawing standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5M)
  • Knowledge of mechanical hardware
  • Experience with ANSYS
  • Experience with a PDM system
  • Knowledge of CREO (Pro‑E)
  • Experience in technical (2D) drafting
  • Knowledge of optics and space systems
