Supply, Trading & Shipping, Asia Pacific & Middle East (ST&S APME) is the supply and trading arm of bp and is our face to the traded markets for oil, gas, power, refinery and chemical feedstock and currencies in Asia Pacific & the Middle East. Using our outstanding expertise and insights, we are the leading buyer and seller of spot cargoes, with a focus on responsiveness and the introduction of new products to keep the world's energy moving. ST&S APME supports other bp businesses by providing a competitive supply and trading function that covers Oil, Chemicals, Power and Gas as well as a suite of risk management tools. Our trading business delivers gross margin through our entrepreneurial trading activities and the optimization of blending and shipping operations. ST&S APME's vision is to grow the Eastern Hemisphere supply and trading business into an industry-leading organization that is not only profitable and safe but also one that respects the environment and communities that we operate in. ST&S APME is a dynamic environment as it is market driven and at the forefront of BP's commercial activities.

We are seeking an applicant to fill the position of Trading Operations Team Lead for the Lights Team and will be based in Singapore. The successful applicant will be part of the Operations Leadership Team and will report to the Trading Operations Manager. The Team Lead will lead and empower a team of Trading Operators to optimize commercial value from the supply and trading activities. The Team Lead will also work closely and proactively with the Front Office, HSSE, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Tax and the Finance & Business teams to provide assurance on processes and procedures especially in trading operations. These operational objectives are aligned with our BP "Who we are" framework, which are to be achieved with no compromise to BP's operating standards.

Key accountabilities

The successful candidate will be a member of the Operations Leadership team and will primarily be leading Naphtha, Petchem & LPG Operations team. This role will work closely with the Traders, the Finance teams, bp Shipping and various functions across ST&S APME and will:-

  • Actively model bp 'ways of working' and support a high performance, professional and respectful culture on the bench.
  • Serve as an experienced resource to other operators and assist in troubleshooting operational issues, taking lead on handling internal and external relationships.
  • Ensure that the Team aligns with bp Policies & Procedures, ST&S policies and standards relevant to the Team's role, including Code of Conduct.
  • Monitor team to ensure compliance to all Passport to Work requirements.
  • Ensure team aligns with the Marine Assurance process and the vetting & Clearance Standards.
  • Ensure team understands the requirements regarding the reporting of personal, financial, quality, quantity and HSSE incidents to team lead and support root cause investigation and the development of corrective actions.
  • Provide operational leadership to develop team commercial and eye for business.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the business gets the appropriate level of support from the team.
  • Ensure alignment of team and bench strategies to drive commercial performance.
  • Support regional and global projects and initiatives.
  • Ensure timely and accurate records in the Operators Workbench (OWB) to support inventory reconciliation, exposure management and settlement activities.
  • Be responsible for setting team objectives and completing performance appraisals.
  • Support staff in developing their career plans.
  • Provide challenge and help team members develop to their full commercial potential.
  • Ensure proficiency requirement for roles and place the right people in the right role.
  • Ensure appropriate level of cover across teams for back-up, vacation leave, and replacement planning
  • Build relationships with key internal partners and external parties such as inspection companies, shipbrokers, ship agents, terminals, etc.
  • Coordinate with Team Leads and Operators from other benches to build internal relationships and promote knowledge sharing.

Desirable criteria and qualifications

  • Knowledge of the energy trading industry
  • A university degree or equivalent experience or diploma holder preferred, but specific educational profile is less important than behaviours and a strong background of high performance and contribution
