Key Accountabilities:
- Develop the commercial shipping optimization agenda in line with priorities set by the Senior Commercial Shipping Optimization Manager, translating and building strategy into day-to-day voyage and fleet actions.
- Maintain a live daily earnings' focus, including daily PnL monitoring and intervention, daily route and speed monitoring, and participation in daily Chartering optimization huddles to protect and improve voyage economics.
- Optimize voyage execution through hands-on involvement in routing, speed management, fuel consumption, stoppages, voyage route compliance, and heating strategy, implementing "heat-to-need" principles and surfacing exceptions via dashboards.
- Supervise vessel and voyage performance indicators, coordinating with the Performance Manager to identify underperforming vessels using accurate dashboards and data, and coordinating corrective actions with internal partners.
- Support bunker optimization, assisting the bunker buyer by reviewing bunker intakes and optimizing bunker stems for each voyage to improve cost and efficiency outcomes.
- Be accountable for vessel performance and commercial claims, including performance claims, off-hire tracking, re-billable at voyage level, and coordination with internal & external partners to improve recovery.
- Support charter party and contract optimization, reviewing Time-Charterparties for improvement opportunities and implementing redelivery guardrails to prevent over-hire and commercial leakage.
- Build post-voyage performance analysis and learning, coordinating with Analysts and Performance teams on monthly earnings reviews, underperformance reports, voyage reviews, and ensuring takeaways are implemented through closed-loop feedback systems.
- Contribute to target accurate reporting and benchmarking, maintaining accurate shipping scorecards, supervising trends against internal targets and industry benchmarks, and highlighting gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Coordinate across functions and external partners, including Chartering, Operations, Performance, Digital, Technical teams, charterers, suppliers, and vendors, supporting consistent optimization practices, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Crucial Experience:
- Shown experience in commercial shipping, voyage operations, chartering, or fleet performance roles with hands-on exposure to live voyage management.
- Strong practical understanding of PnL drivers, routing, speed management, fuel consumption, bunker intakes, and voyage economics.
- Hands‑on experience using IMOS or commercial voyage management systems.
- Experience in identifying freight losses, minimizing idle time and handling commercial claims (demurrage, off‑hire, miscellaneous claims).
- Understanding of tanker charter parties and freight terms. Experience supporting vessel performance and off-hire claims, including coordination with internal partners and owners.
- Comfortable working with performance dashboards, voyage systems and data to drive real-time decisions.
- Must have experience as a sea-going Mariner (senior level) or a recent commercial shipping background (voyage operations or fleet performance).
Desirable Experience:
- Recent experience working within a vessel‑owning organization or tanker pool set‑up, providing direct exposure to commercial decision‑making, fleet performance drivers, owner-charterer dynamics, and the operational frameworks that underpin commercial optimization.
- Recent exposure to LNG or gas‑fueled tanker operations, including familiarity with dual‑fuel propulsion, LNG bunkering procedures, boil‑off gas (BOG) management, and commercial/operational considerations
- Strong influencing and partner leadership skills, with a consistent record to coordinate across technical, digital, commercial, and operational teams, as well as with external partners and vendors.
- Thorough understanding of compliance requirements, risk management practices, and governance frameworks relevant to commercial shipping operations.
- Strong commercial outlook, with experience in cost recovery, claims management, contract optimization, and delivering efficient measurable financial outcomes.
- Familiarity with vessel performance technologies, fuel efficiency solutions, and digital platforms relevant to shipping optimization.
- Experience on LNG as a sea-going Mariner (senior level) or a recent commercial shipping background.
